Using an image from another site / Image code

Say I have an image on another site and want to use it on another site of mine. Can I just slightly rename it, upload it, and it will be different in Google's eyes or is there some kind of hidden footprint within an image?

Lastly, what is the best code to use for an image? Should it be more than this?
<img src="howling-dog.jpg" alt="howling dog" />

What about a caption or title, what is best code for SEO?

Yes, there's a hidden footprint. You can call it "the image". Nowadays Google can process the images to recognize copies, variations and related images fairly well so you can't really fool them that easily.

Of course in verbatim copy there's also EXIF data.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

Believe it or not Google can actually recognize the image and find if it is taken from another site that was an original source of the image. However, there are certain Wordpress plugins that supposedly watermark images on your site, which will make your images unique. But, I have personally not tried such a thing, and may not try.

Do you have permission from the owner of the site you get the image from?

It's my image. I said "Say I have an image on another site and want to use it on another site of mine."

I have somewhat of a PBN, been using it for years and have good SERP results, even though people say a PBN won't work. It's worked for me in my narrow niche.

So, this concern revolves around Google possibly hurting my SERP because of the image being used on more than one site.

I wonder if I could not change the size of the image and also the file size (quality) or would it somehow know that it's from the same original image.

Upload the image, wait for the page to be indexed,

      go to
      https://www.google.com/imghp?hl=en&tab=wi&authuser=0
click on the camera icon in the search bar, follow the steps
Google will tell you it's figured out the image has appeared on more than one site.

You can also use: TinEye Reverse Image Search

Unfortunately, both work only for images that have already been published.

I ran tineye on some images of mine. I wanted to know if resizing an image makes enough difference that such tools consider it a new/different image.

Tineye couldn't figure out the original and the smaller size version were one and the same image.

I've tried cropping part of an image. Tineye knew the cropped part was part of the original.

Never tested on Google; I'm bright that way.
