Hi Warriors,

Am new to SEO and would like to seek advise on SEO .

I read the SEO related posts here knowing that my new site will rank high and quick if i purchase keyword (low competing, high searches) related domain.

But would like to know what if I have a domain name (which is not keyword relevant). Can I still rank high and get index quick if I do proper on-page SEO and build backlink to it ? I notice in google that some domains rank high in google when doing the search but the domain name has no keyword in it.

Correct me if I am wrong that the only difference between keyword related domain and non-keyword related domain is the time required to get it indexed and rank high in google. Maybe the difference is 3 weeks (keyword related domain) or 3 months (non-keyword related). But in long run (6 to 1 year down the road), quality backlink and unique content still play a big part in SEO.

I don't mind my non-keyword related domain rank #3 or #6 spot in google as long as it stays at page 1 of the search results.

The reason is that nowadays very hard to find two words domain and normally we have to get 3 or 4 words domain which is not easy for branding purposes.

hope to hear some opinion from my warrior friends.

    Keywords in domains, particularly hyphenated keyword domains do not contribute to rank as much as they did. You do not find as many hyphenated domain names as you did 2 years ago when page one was always full of them. Semantic structure of your page, title, description and relevancy of your text are all very important on-page factors. I would not worry about the domain name, personally.

    I think that exact match keyword domains make a big difference, at least in the few experiments that I have done.

    Non keyword domains can still rank with the proper work, it is just going to be a bit harder and take longer.

      I often feel sick when do a keyword research and found out that 3 or 4 keywords get pretty good searches but suck as the domain name is too long.

      Would you go for

      a) howtogetridofacne.com

      or

      b) AcneVee.com

      I can build brand on (b) but not (a).

      But what is really matter to SEO ?

      Which one has more resell value (domain name and site flipping) ?

    Keyword related domain will help your website in optimization purpose. There is nothing to do with indexing. Website indexing is nothing to do with domain or keywords in it.

    I am sure keyword-domain is better than non-keyword domains. Google gives some points for DOMAIN name too. but both can be archived, NON KEYWORD domains will require more work than keyword-domain.

    First know your purpose, are you building a brand or just a website for monetization?

    If you are building a brand, it requires hard work and huge time to get to the top, but if you want to monetize your site, best is to go with keyword domain - in which case the seo would be more easier than branding.

    Keywords in a domain name do help a little but the most important part of having the keywords in the domain name is that they most likely end up in the title tag of your site as well. Not to mention the anchor text of links pointing to your site. Everything appears much more natural and not spammy, that's the real benefit of it.

    Stay away from hyphenated domain names, they're junk on several levels. Keep the customer in mind just as much as the serps.

    But yes you can still rank #1 without the keywords being in the domain name.

      Strategy is important.

      For short term quick success, keyword domain name is the way to go.

      For long term, backlink and unique content is a must and whether or not the domain name is keyword related does not matter anymore.

      Any good SEO guide recommended ?

        A Keyword domain has some advantages related to SEO than a non-keyword domain.

        I'm sure the non-keyword domain is a step behind the keyword domain on the SERP like google, but I tried to prove that a non-keyword domain can survive against keyword domains on the SEO contest like this one:

          Your site is ranking third spot on page 1. Very impressive. and you have non-keyword related domain and just check your site. You just started it on april this year.

          How long does it take for you to get on page 1 ?

          Just do a quick search in google

          in google, using broad search for your keyword , it show 700k competing websites. But with quote between the keyword , it show 1.6million. That's the strangest result i have ever seen .

          I always thought exact match should be less than broad match.

          Anyone would like to share what's going on ?

    It's mostly backlinks. Keywords in the domain help a bit for uncompetitive terms, but if you have any competition at all it's all about backlinks.

    I think providing Good Content is key. If it's good, it will go viral when people recommend your link (adding to backlinks), thereby increasing off-page factors. Actually, regarding SEO, there is no guide out there that really stands out. There are a few contenders that really are good, and they are everywhere. But the truth is, SEO marketing has always been, and will continue to be a closely guarded terrain.

    For The Big G the most important thing are
    related backlinks from authority sites.

    You could research the high rankers from your niche
    and to look how many backlinks they have.

    Domain has a minor role concerning the ranking
    and G has started to favor branded domains
    ( says the industry news)

    I agree with Runner, you may or may not have a keyword domain - it wouldn't matter that much provided there are enough links with relevant anchors.

    Also, I seriously doubt that domain names matter when it comes to indexing. And it doesn't take that long, it's a matter of a couple of days - provided there are links enabling SEs to find the new site, as well as a sitemap.

    howtogetridoface.acnevee.com ?

    In the relationship niche where most of the keyword domains have been taken I see alot of people using this option and ranking.

    I have never tested this, it is just an observation.
