I just want to check I was reading this right, do the changes that occurring with Google, only affect the mobile search as outlined in the link here via Google

Will there therefore be 2 types of searches?

The Google update is related to mobile searches only.

If you do a search on your desktop for "Local Doctors" the results are most likely to be somewhat different than if you do a search on your mobile device, depending on what sites are responsive.

Non-responsive sites will not rank as high on mobile devices

Yes,
Mobile search will prioritize mobile friendly sites.
On desktop, no change.
