Technical SEO question regarding multiple domains

Hi guys,

I'm working with a client that has two domains, one that acts as their landing/support/faq page and the other is the location of the app itself:

trybrandname.com and brandname.net

Of course I realise this is far from ideal and as a matter of high priority they should look to move to a single domain for a whole host of branding and SEO reasons, however, this was set up at a time when the app was small and it scaled very quickly into a different beast altogether - so we need a short term solution.

Question is - They want the URL's to appear unified on the SERP, but as far as I know there is no obvious solution to making the brandname.net domain appear as a site link under trybrandname.net in the search results. Does anyone have a more technical solution to making this happen? Perhaps setting up a subdomain on trybrandname.com that uses a proxy pointing to brandname.net?

I'm out of ideas here, so any suggestions are massively appreciated!

Just to see if I am understanding this correctly...

They have Site1 ranking in the SERP for a given keyword, but instead they want Site2 to rank in that position while keeping both sites active?

If that is the case, there is no way to just switch them out.

You could try doing a 301 redirect of the ranking site to the other, but that is pretty much going to mean the ranking site does not exist anymore.

Thanks for getting back to me Mike.

Not quite. They have both site1 and site2 appearing for their brand name keyword. They want to have site2 appear as a site link for site1, so that it's obvious they are the same company.

I'm 99.9% this is not possible, but I was wondering if there is some kind of technical solution to making it appear as if site2 is hosted on a subdomain of site1 for the meanwhile until I can work on getting a full migration to one domain in place. It's a pretty unique situation tbh and I've struggled to find anywhere online that touches it.

Oh a sitelink. Okay. I missed that part.

I have never heard of a way to do that, and I highly doubt that there is a way.

Closest solution is going to be building a new page and redirecting that site to the page hoping it shows up as a sitelink, but there is no guarantee that would work.

Unfortunately, you cannot influence what appears as sitelinks. Sitelinks are autogenerated and not controlled by SEOs.
