Hi people,

Could someone explain to me what scalable linkbuilding is and why it's dangerous for business?

    Where did you hear the term 'scalable link building'? Sounds like a buzz word someone made up to sell something.

    My guess is it is just a process of link building/acquisition that is easy to scale up for a business. I have no idea why anyone would say that is dangerous.

    I disagree with a lot of that article. On the scalablity side of his argument, he is basically saying that getting a lot of links quickly is seen as bad by Google. That is not true. What the hell does everyone think happens when a piece of content goes viral?

    I also disagree with him basically saying not to use keyword rich anchor text. Every anchor you can think of is keyword rich for something.

    I could not read any further. I'm trying to eat breakfast and was starting to throw up in my mouth a little bit.

    I agree that's a lot of blabla. Another example aren't social networks an escalable way of distributing your content and therefore getting backlinks?

      From what I've read around here is that those are not going to be quality backlinks and their value is questionable.

      I don't have enough experience to fully validate or otherwise question this.

        Of course! But social media is a way of distributing your content in a way that can reach people, build relationships, trust and therefore get backlinks. And it is escalable as your chances of getting viral increases.

    I think most of the "Scalable" talk comes down to how you're building, or earning those links.

    Are they from a piece of viral content? I think Google knows damn well that viral content gets posted onto major content aggregiate sites like Nuzzle, Yahoo News etc etc. Links you're creating yourself, aren't ending up those places, but instead onto hundreds of lower quality sites.

    I'd say that we all need to see a nuanced set of goals and actions here. To rank, you have to build some links....but scaleable sounds awfully like software and automation, which I think are waves of the past in terms of link building-
