Here's the answer you're looking for.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

It's not the most important factor, but it will certainly help. Just the faster response times that Googles' servers receive when hitting your site will probably give you a little bump.

That makes no sense. If one wants to target the US, and your
server is in Turkey, then that would be a killer.

In many cases, the location of your server is the most
      important thing.

Think not? I dare anyone to host a site in pakistan, russia, china,
turkey, india, venezuela, iran, syria, libya, ...then try targeting the US.

Faster response time has nothing to do with the location of a server.

People need to learn how the internet works. Your website server
goes through what could be a gazillion networks before getting there.
The info highway can get pretty clogged. Location of server would
be moot if one wanted speed as fast as possible.

I'm not sure if this hyperbole helps this argument. You're listing some countries that have either poor infrastructure, are located in the most problematic spots on earth for good US connectivity, or are known to meddle with the internet for political reasons. It's more likely that "Europe" would mean something like Amsterdam and "Asia" would mean something like Tokyo, both connected to US with submarine cables.

India is the only exception where English is a major language. All of the others have their own languages, and that's something that Google tracks. So if you're posting in English, but residing in a country that doesn't really use English they just might draw the obvious conclusion.

I guess you may not be up on things.

I am talking about spammed, scams, counterfeit, virus-infected, who-gives-a-crap-websites,
in countries that are notorious for such things.

Those countries would be first and foremost at the bottom of the heap when it
comes to google serving up sites to a United States searcher.

Hence, nobody in their right mind would be hosting a site there to make money
in the United States, unless it was for illegal activity not even coming up in
          a google search.

Yes, that includes India. I remember when google changed the rules for
adsense, specifically for the clowns who are located in India.
          Now ask yourself why.

It's NOT about infrastructure. And if you did not know that some countries
are just bad in google's eyes, well, now you do. And if they
are not bad in google's eyes, your ISP may block them.

It's not hyperbole, because people just don't know how the internet works.
Probably a product of WP and cheap domains. Nobody has incentive to
learn history, technical details, and keep up to date.

You could be in Dallas hosting a site in Houston. Think that's close?
Think again. Your server in Houston could be routed to NY, Boston,
          Detroit, then back to Dallas.

Again, location of a server has nothing to do with speed. Servers get
clogged, overheated, overtaxed, overwhelmed, and rerouted numerous
          times.

As far as I know Google doesn't just ban or filter entire countries. It would be pretty bad in case a website originating from a filtered country just happened to be the most relevant result.

Yes, IP address may be a parameter and yes, individual site owners may block those countries for whatever reason. That's not the same thing.

You're painting with a brush so broad that it's getting impossible to read what you're actually trying to say. Large parts of the world is just about criminal activity of some sort? Even if that was the case, and it isn't, Google's job would be to operate within that environment.

Nobody in their right mind would host somewhere else because US has the most competitive hosting market in the world.

I'm asking myself why'd you change the topic all of a sudden.

I'm giving Google way more credit than you do. Perhaps they can, you know, filter the bad apples from the good ones. They've proven to be pretty good at that.

Yeah, routing can be a pain. Completely agree on this one. It's really frustrating to notice that a company that routes your traffic prefers to use a clogged route for cheaper prices or some other reasons.
