distinct experience in my seo career during an interview

Today i would like to discuss a very strange thing that happened in my seo career during an interview. The company was an human outsourcing and payroll based. i wont take the name of company here due to its reputation in the market. the very first person who took my interview was totally out of the line. he kept asking me question about other things instead of seo ...like do you knw this in control panel, what is batch file ...etc..he just took 10 mints to finish my first round. in my second round i was in front of the owner of the company what to tell about him. he was totally out of mind..starting my interview with basic question and my knowledge about seo he came to one ques that was

do you know black hat seo..?

i simply said yes and let him know about it. he said if you have to bring our website at first page what u will do. i said ill do quality and clean work on the site and try to bring it on top 10 for various keywords. he said i dont need quality work on my site i just want black hat seo from you. i was amazed. black hat seo about your site ? he said no black hat seo for my competitors. do BHS for competitors sites and bring their sites ranking down..i simply said no as it is not only strictly restricted by search engines but being in seo i would not like to follow any unethical tactics like for better ranking. It was totally a distinct experience in my seo career during an interview...

    The owner mentioning BH SEO is enough reason to walk out of the interview because a normal business wouldn't fixate on short term rankings in the SERPs.

    I reject SEO projects all the time If it's not a good fit for me.

    Move on...

    Well it all comes down to if you want to do it or not. He will pay you for your job whether you are doing BH or WH. If your decision is not to work with BH stuff then great.

    Your first interviewer was testing your overall knowledge, there are so many so called SEO experts who know the right SEO lingo, but lack the skills to put anything useful into action. What use is an SEO expert that doesn't understand HTML, CSS, PHP etc... if they are tasked to optimize a sites layout or how to improve speed when they know nothing about databases or caching.....

    Interesting, so they were looking to hire someone to do negative SEO on competitors.

    Curious how big the company is, household name or small fry?

    I've not tried a negative SEO campaign other than on my own domains either as SEO tests or by mistake (early mistakes whilst learning). Negative SEO is far easier than whitehat SEO, there are so many tools blackhats use that can be aimed at a competitor.
