Changing a URL will create a 404 If it's not 301 redirected to another live URL.

Changing an entire site URL (ex: https or www/non-www) can drop every ranked page in Google SERPs if they're not handled correctly because Google ranked the original URL, not the new URL with zero external backlinks or supporting internal links.

yukon so you are telling me that it is not necessary to make changes. Also i don't have enough skills to change URL and redirect it to another live URL

    www/non-www is just personal preference.

I prefer my sites to be without www, easier to type and most people tend to link without the www.

Whichever one you choose, make sure to stick to it. Also 301 redirect to it and tell Google your preferred choice in Google WMT.

at this moment i'm using www.mysite.com URL in webmaster tool will it show me overall search pattern for both www.mysite.com and http://mysite.com or i have to add http://mysite.com url as a individual site to see rankings on that domain name..
I am asking this question because marketing samurai is showing me that www.mysite.com has 1200 backlinks pointing to domain and http://mysite.com this domain has only 315 backlinks

The reason is, if you change your URL from www to non www you will lose any backlinks you have built on the first one.

If your site is new or doesn't have any backlink you can just change it without any fear otherwise you should redirect the old to the new one.
