Linking out to a new URL from article?

I've already posted another thread, one a different subject but this one is about writing articles and what the complications are if I link out from the article to a brand new URL?

Will it affect the articles ability to rank in Google?

No, linking out can't affect its rankings (similarly, I once came across a claim that linking to authority sites can get a page higher in serps, which is completely not true) - although it can be helpful for the new site .

  Oh, I didn't think it would, but now it makes me wonder why my other article that was linking to a Squidoo lens died off so fast when the lens was killed.

  Are you saying that outbound links never have any value (apart from on new sites) - because from my experience I certainly wouldn't agree with that statement.
