URl Not Changing - Bad for SEO?

Hello,
I'm building a motivational quote site. Every post will consist of a new quote and an image.

The developer sent me the final site but when I make a new post the URL does not change. I am using a Genesis Theme and there are arrows on the left and right of the post allowing the user to scroll and view postings.

Will this hurt my SEO? Should each post change the URL to a relevant name representing the quote or author? I'm at a loss so any help is much appreciated.

    If your "developer" is building it, then why a theme? Are you not paying for
    a hand built website?

    I can't even fathom what your question means, other than you must be using
    wordpress, which is a tip off to why there is confusion.

    I can publish a blog, or anything else using a CMS. The main page url
    will never change. Each new post (quote) will have its own new url.

    Unless you are doing daily quotes and changing just the quote.
    Common thing in some niches.

    Whoever is building your site should have an accessible archive from the
    main page to view past quotes. See an example at gocomics.com

    Hire someone who knows how to actually build a site. By hand.
    From scratch. Tell them what you want.

      Using "framework" themes takes care of large portion of the basic stuff like basic layout, structure, browser support, page elements, and maybe even some Javascript goodies. You don't want to reinvent the wheel, and make all sort of silly little mistakes.

      That's something every site builder should know. However, it might not be in your best interests to ask for it in your project.

    Hello Paul & Expmrb,
    Thank you for the reply. I have hired a freelancer to create a website using WordPress and a Genesis Theme.

    Would you mind taking a look? The is the url, Happy Riots There is only three posts currently. Notice when you scroll from one post to the next, the url remains the same as the main website. Would it be advantageous for the url to change? I am thinking if I had 1000 quotes and someone wanted to share a quote with a friend. How would they share a specific page if the urll doesn't change.

    Sorry if this is a very rookie question. I appreciate the guidance.

    Yes, that's a pretty bad site structure. You're right to say that in my opinion.

    In addition to what you said, you're not really serving the kind of motivational images that are often floating around, but just a sentence and a huge background image. Even if you were having a page for each of them the content would be very slim, but now you just have a slider.

    The site is very slow on my connection. However, the images can be optimized. You're using 300 DPI images, and just the first one takes nearly 3Mb. I got it down to less than 800Kb without reducing the width, but it's also absurdly large.

    I had to look around and adjust my browser screen to even find the slider controls. That's pretty bad.

      Looks like he (your "developer") just didn't actually make posts or paged, but rather used a slider plugin or similar.

      Essentially, you're just switching from one graphic to the next and the quote is overlayed on the graphic.

      In other words the url doesn't change because you only have one page. The slider just changes the content on the one page.

      The Michael Jordan quote is hopefully input wrong, otherwise it's dripping with irony.

      As Paul said, get someone that knows what they are doing.

        That was my main concern. Definitely a great take-away point for me. Now I know what to specify upfront moving forward and I'll also be in the market for a new developer that can help fix and finish the site. Thanks for your help.

      Thank you for the constructive feedback on site structure. That's my principal action item to clean up. I'll also be using optimized images. I just quickly uploaded 3 to understand the structure and solicit feedback. Ultimately I'll be using optimized images to increase speed. Thank you for your help.
