Trying to improve my site

I am looking to improve my website and have a question. I am new on the forum, so please bear with me. I have basic SEO knowledge, but am trying to learn more.

Should I create a new homepage and have all of my services on it, or should I leave it as it is now with graphic design (or possibly image editing or photography) on the homepage?

What area/s of my site need the most work in your opinion?

I know my site needs a lot of work, but any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank You,
Marshall

How many keywords you are focusing with your current website ?

I really need to start from scratch in regards to that. Ideally, I would like to focus on graphic design, image editing (namely restoration as opposed to beauty retouching) and fine art photography. So my answer would be good keywords in those niches. Is the google keyword tool the best free tool to find keywords or is there something else I should try? Am I right in trying to use keywords with a good amount of monthly searches, but not a lot of competition?

Keep in mind that Keyword Planner is showing you statistics on AdWords spots.

Competition and Bid is an indicator of commerciality of the keyword. Low comp and bid means that advertisers aren't placing high value on advertising those keywords. I've found that this is typically a function of the lifetime value of the product/customer for that market but not always the case.

In addition you also want to do some competition analysis from the SERPS (just page 1), reviewing their SEO properties to get a feel for how well optimized and the difficulty level for competing in the SERPS.

Finally, you can also look to the allintitle results to determine how starved or satisfied the SERPS are dishing out the results. If there are only 100 results for an allintitle search with a monthly search volume of 1000 then you know (essentially) that there is not enough content to satisfy the searching.

          Thanks James.

If there are 195,000 allintitle results when I search allintitle: photo restoration, that means there are that many pages with the words "photo" and "restoration" in the title, right? This indicates that it is very competitive.

          Thanks

I don't know about competitive, you'd have to look to see how well optimized those top 10-20 results are. Just having 195,000 doesn't mean it's not something to consider.

As an idea, you might want to think in terms of ranking for content. Not sure who I read, but someone recently posted that "every piece of content should have a purpose for creating it". With that said, as an example, I might try to rank for a good how-to article I'd write like "photo restoration guide" or "photo restoration how to".
