Backlinks hidden within a header banner

So I have received links coming from a header banner that is placed on every page of the linking website. These links are currently do-follow.

I know that this is not malicious intent, so is it best to get them no-followed or just removed and re-worked?

Would links hidden within a header banner penalise my site?

Anything that’s hidden is considered suspicious by Google. So best to make them with nofollow.

Hidden links are suspicious, and not having them would be a good idea. I don't think nofollow would help much. The spam links would still exist, they're just not trying to pass pagerank.

      What's your excuse?

Yeah its still exist if we made nofollow but Google will not penalized right?

I'm not sure why you're saying something like that. Do you not understand that much of the spam links are nofollow?

I'm hoping that OP wasn't calling normal image links "hidden". That would mean that this whole thread is silly, useless, pointless, and irrelevant. Hidden links are something that's hidden with style settings so that site users don't see or can't access them.

Hidden links are not effective links.

So what if you have images on your website with links in it as well as alt img tags? Are those images with links considered hidden and suspicious? No of course not. The same counts for a banner image. You can not see the link but you can see the image containing the link so it is not hidden.

No it's not an image link. The banner doesn't redirect to my website, it is a drop down for a sign up/login so you cannot click on it and be taken off site, like an image link would.

It is hidden with style settings.
