Backlinks from social media websites

Hi Warriors,

I have created a new blog and experimenting with the seo specially with backlinks.

I have written a post and shared it on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google Plus... but after few days when I checked "Links to Your Site" in Google webmasters tool, I have 5 backlinks from Google Plus but don't have any single backlink from any other social media website. Does that means Google gives more value to BackLinks from their social media website?

My second question is that as my blog is new and don't have many backlinks so I can understand it will take some time to get indexed and ranked well in google but when I checked "Search Queries" in Google Webmasters tool there are some funny Queries. When will my Keywords start appearing in Google Webmasters tool?

For reference URL of my blog is: Tech News - Best Place for Tech News

Google Webmaster Tools is notoriously slow at picking up links. Sometimes months will go by before links start showing up in there even though Google is well aware of the links long before that.

On a side note, social media links are not going to boost your rankings at all. Good for traffic, but not going to help you out with SEO.

You shouldn't expose your site to smart SEO guys. They will rip you off! :-)

You will see links from Google Plus in the GWT because google counts those link. How much are they worth? Not much I would guess. Google does place "some" value in those links which is probably why they try to block API access to profile pages (although, there are ways around this block).

Pinterest shows up in GWT too. FB and Twitter do not. Maybe Linkedin company page does, I'd have to check.

Don't think of posts to social media sites as link building. Use these posts to get traffic.

You'll see your keywords in GWT when you start ranking for those keywords. Consider using a tracking tool such as Rank Tracker. I believe the free version is good enough to start with. You'll want to use it with a proxy to avoid getting your computer temporarily blocked by the search engines.

  • Social media is a good method for getting the traffic but it is not good for getting backlinks and keyword ranking.
