From my understanding it is that White Hat SEO are doing SEO the way Google and other SE want you to do it which is best for long term where as Black Hat SEO is doing SEO in a semi-acceptable or even unethical ways according to Google and the other SE. Black Hat is more short term and I understand people do it for fast lump cash as it couldn't last that long before the SE catch on.

    This link explains it well.

It's pretty much as jordorules said.

To simplify things a bit more, this is all you need to know and consider.

Black-hat is cheap and quick but has no long term future.

White-hat is expensive and slow, but focuses on the long term.

Blackhat SEO: SEO that uses aggressive tactics which does not follow search engine rules.
Examples of this include stuffing keywords, adding unrelated keywords to your page or aggressively spinning useless articles everywhere on the web.
This is good if you want to make a quick buck, but in the long term it will hurt you. So I don't recommend this.

Whitehat SEO: Opposite to Blackhat SEO.This is when you use SEO tactics that follow the search engine rules.
In other words this is when you are doing the right thing.

An example of this is producing quality content for your website visitors and regularly and consistently getting high PR backlinks to your website. I recommend this method because Google and other search engines are less likely to nail you and it is more likely that your website will stay o high in the rankings for a long time.

    Hope that helps

Here are the factors which are used to perform in Off-page SEO.
1.) Black Hat SEO: Here all link-building task used to perform with the help of automation tool or else we can say that by using bot.
2.) White Hat SEO: Here all the link-building task used to perform manually, it is very effective to increase the visibility of the site in SERP.
3.) Gray Hat SEO: This is the combination of Black Hat SEO and White Hat SEO.

Among this three the most effective process is White Hat SEO.

This is not necessarily true. There's different levels of risk associated with different tactics, and even how you proceed with them might make a huge difference. More advanced black hats can keep their stuff hidden for extensive periods of time, but they've probably paid their dues.

In practice pure "white hat" is pretty rare. Our figurative hats are fifty shades of gray. Many are purchasing links, but several other forms of link building that you see casually tossed around on WF are against Google's TOS - or at least the spirit of it. For example, article directories and blog comments for backlinks are not something that Google would like to see.

  • Hi

    Hi lisacolins

    The easy words:

    * WhiteHatSeo is a permissible practice that improves the performance of the search on the search engine;

    * BlackHatSeo is a practice that uses aggressive strategies of research, not just permitted.

Black is done by bot or a software and white hat is done manually. This the difference between the 2.

Not a good description. I know guys who run as much "white hat" operation as you can get, but they use tools such as Scrapebox. They're just not using the automation to spam.

"Black hats" can get a lot of stuff done "manually", and some methods you see recommended on WF are basically manually posted spam.

  • Since every possible definition and differences are discussed. I just want to convey the methods being used for blackhat and white hat. Comment spamming, email spamming, forced back links, URL cloaking are considered as blackhat techniques. On page optimization, relevant link building, content development, internal linking are considered as white hat techniques.

Black hat SEO refers to techniques and strategies used to get higher search rankings, and breaking search engine rules.

White hat SEO refers to the use of techniques and strategies that target a human audience opposed to a search engine.

Black Hat SEO: Back-links created by using bot, it is not effective.
White Hat SEO: Back-links created manually which is really good.

False. You can do 'white hat' with bots, as mentioned before. And, effective? That depends on your goals. If you want to make $1000 in the next week and you do it with black hat that cost you $50, it's quite effective. And some people can.

And the week after, they start with another site and make themselves the money over again.

And White Hat SEO is no SEO at all. Google doesn't like people doing any SEO, read their guidelines sometime.

Black Hat SEO: There are some techniques, which violates search engine guideline to get higher search engine rankings in result pages. Its a manipulative technique but easy to get the result. Cloaking, Keyword stuffing are some of the examples.
White Hat SEO : These are the techniques which obeys se guidelines, uses only ethical method to get results. such as social bookmarking, social media marketing, directory submission etc.

You're right, except the ethical part. You can have black hat SEO and break no ethics rules, except Googles.

What makes posting a crappy article on a number of directories more ethical than link cloaking?

Yes you are correct only except for googles.
Posting crappy articles on a number of directories is not an ethical method, it would lead to content duplicity issue.

"Content duplicity" doesn't make sense. You may want to consult a dictionary.

Are you trying to say that duplicate content is the thing that's unethical to you? For example newspapers get many of their stories from all sort of aggregators and agencies, and often they're basically posting the same article.

In my opinion posting crap is somewhat unethical in the sense that you're littering internet for the rest of us who'd like to occasionally find something.

If you publish same content on different places without mentioning no index tag and source of the content that is unethical method.
In case of news agencies, they will get information from same source but they publish that news in their own ways. Their target is content not seo.

BLACK HAT SEO : Black hat seo techniques are used by any seo to get instant results without considering Google webmaster rules. Google doesn't like such techniques and They will punish us for these activites like spammy comments, mirror sites, expired domain, page hijacking, keyword stuffing etc.
WHITE HAT SEO : These seo techniques follows Google's Webmaster Rules. If we'll do it in a proper way, we'll get 100% orangic SERPs without any Google hit. On page and Off page are two types of white hat seo

White hat SEO means doing SEO Techniques conforming to the quality guidelines recommended by search engines.
Black hat SEO is used by people trying to cheat search engines and soon or later they are penlized.
So if you want your site to be ok in the future – don’t use Black Hat SEO.
