I'm adding a FAQ page to my site and I'm using the Responsive FAQ Wordpress plugin where when someone arrives on the page all the answers to the questions are hidden until someone clicks a "+" sign and then the answers to the questions are revealed.

So my question is this:

Since the answer text is hidden until a visitor clicks the "+" sign does Google see the answers content on the page or does Google not see that text as part of the page content?

If I were to create varying anchor text for backlinks that go to the answers content which are hidden until revealed manually would that be ok or does the page appear blank (apart from the question titles) in Google's eyes?

If you visit the page and view the source code, can you see the answers in the source code? If you can see it then so can Google

It all depends how the plugin is coded. If it's javascript it's a 50/50 chance the text/content is hidden from Google. If it's CSS/HTML5 Google is most likely finding the hidden text/content.

The way you prove Google can find the hidden text/content is by looking at the Google cache (text version) of your own webpage. It has to be the text version of the cache.

If you need help PM the URL & I'll show you the cache page.

I suggest you to block FAQ page in robots.txt... Hiding text is old blackhat method and can effect your SEO..

Solution to a possible issues is to make sure your content never gets indexed? Wow.

You're giving Google way little credit here. They know stuff like WooCommerce is around and popular. They know this is something that your average site owner may use.

Are either one of you sober?

OP is asking a legit question for legit content/text. The only way to prove Google is finding text is by looking at the text version of the cache.

Hidden FAQ text/links is both legit & very common, even Google Help pages hide text on some of their FAQ drop downs.

It depends if you have the answers in the SOURCE code. No matter they are hidden from the page itself, Google visits and read the source code of your page/website!

If you would even read the thread, you would've already learned that this is not really true. Google might index only the content that's shown on the screen as a spam fighting tactic.

    Hi,
Google read the each and every word in your website until you restricted in robots.txt file. If you didn't put those code then Google will automatically read the total content.

If you're not willing to study the topic or even read the thread, why are you posting to it?

Or in other words, have some STFU, will you please?

Yes Google will read it, if it is in text form. Second thing is that you don't need to get links on your FAQ page because it looks unethical to get links from every page. If on FAQ then why not on Contact us Page? so leave that idea.

    hi there,
i have heard that if you use A little Javascript function that’s part of ‘HTML5 History API’ calledwindow.history.pushState()

you can have tabbed content and it still works for SEO. Any experience with this?

    Here’s a couple of references:
