Your Google Position for a particular keyword?

I've been using Google rankings. It only goes out to 1000 and only allows one keyword at a time, but that fits with what I need right now.

As my memory serves me, you can't use this to check Google rankins without the Google API key, which Google no longer issues, since a couple of years ago or so. If you got it while they were issuing them it will still work, from what I understood. But they no longer support it and will not even respond to email in regards to it. Unless they changed again, but I have not heard anything about it since I tried to get one six or nine months ago.

Yes, you do need a key if you want to search for Google's rank. The tool will search Yahoo, Ask and MSN without the Google key. For those who have been around long enough to have a key, it works great.

I used WebCEO to check the rankings for keywords on the search engines. Their basic edition is free.

WebCEO is good I also tend to use SEOSerp as it allows me to check numerous top 1000 rankings instead of limiting to only the top 100

An important thing to remember when you run your sites in Google is to run it through a proxy or it will warp your results to sites you visit frequently.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Traffic Travis (100% Free SEO Software | Traffic Travis).

You create a project for each website. Within the project, you can add your keyword list, and it will not only check your rank in Google, Yahoo, and MSN, but show you your 'Highest' and 'Previous" so you can see your trends. It will check down to position 100.

Lots of other very valuable tools inside as well, such as metrics on competing pages (their links, PR, etc.).

It's one of the few paid tools I've been thoroughly happy with - though there's a 'free' version that works well but limits you to 5 projects.
