Wordpress is the most SEO-friendly CMS and much less time-consuming to optimize than anything else. You can create clean permalinks in 2 clicks, it basically handles the .htaccess stuff for you. Also, the wordpress SEO plugin from Yoast makes it real easy optimize.

What do you think that every web page is made of if not HTML?

You have never used any other CMS, have you? This stuff has been available for a decade in every decent CMS, and it usually doesn't take more effort than in WordPress. Actually WordPress' way of presenting this stuff is fairly convoluted, and the CMS doesn't even ship with some of the most basic SEO features.

PHP is the programming language and platform behind CMSes such as WordPress. The on-page SEO is just some HTML tags so you can do it in any system out there.

The questions don't make much sense unless you give some more information. What are you trying to accomplish? Have you already chosen WordPress as your CMS?

The looks of the website or the script is not actually as important as a couple of other things that people usually miss (off the top of my head):

    1. Your website must be mobile friendly
    2. Must load relatively fast
    3. Should have a SEO friendly URL structure
    4. Should have small header and as much content above the fold as possible.
    5. Have proper interlinking structure and be well optimized in general.

When you are going to implement theme you must take care of following things.
    1. Theme should be search engine friendly
    2. Theme should user friendly
in above two point many things can be covered.

Actually, wordpress is one of the worst. Period.

There is no best template because templates for the most part, suck.

The best webpages are built from scratch. You do things how you want them.

It's not hard. Everything you need to copy is very open on the internet.

But there really is no one SEO design, as all sites are different. They are
      for different people and circumstances.

I mean would you really want a website that looks like craigslist?!?!?!
And yet, that site is top notch....for people who want to use craigslist.

I know most of you (pity) do not keep up with news and google, but this
is one terrific thing for people who know what the frick they are doing:

Using plain HTML is good for SEO. If you are not a professional designer, then your site will not look good using only HTML. So next better option is using Wordpress for web designing. WordPress is not SEO friendly blog platform by default. But after making some changes in Wordpress dashboard, you will get a very powerful and SEO friendly website.

SEO is related to your website, not on the platform. You can choose any platform that you want, but you should make your website SEO friendly by doing website optimization.
    • Make your website responds to any mobile devices.
    • Image optimization, page loading speed, clear CSS, HTML and JavaScript errors if any.
    • Text to HTML ratio
And the main thing is content, if you are using duplicate content, then there is no use of your website with SEO. Use unique and fresh content for website.

I don't agree with Paul about WP being worst because there's so many downright nasty systems out there. However, it's depressing to see these kinds of posts from people who don't understand anything about technology or SEO. You think installing a plugin made your site optimized, huh?

These all depend on the theme except for the taxonomies. They're not "impotent", but some of these structures stem from HTML specs, and others are very common ideas in this space. WordPress is in no way unique.

I would suggest go with wordpress.. because it has a lot of easy SEO plugins like all in one, yoast and squirrly...Morever, the blogging platform is a great advantage since blogging is a major contributor to SEO.. With a plain HTML or PHP site, you don't get all the advantages wordpress offers....

Wordpress isn't a problem, it does whatever you make it do just like anything else.

Here's an SEO Silo Wordpress theme I built. I made it a point to not include a bunch of unnecessary fluff like you'll find on most premium themes.

Notice how the Wordpress silo theme page is optimized like Wikipedia does with their webpages. The <h1> tag loads first in the HTML source code while the top site wide navigation links load in the footer of the HTML source code.

The first screenshot is the live webpage, the 2nd screenshot is the text version of the same webpage.

Actually, If I honestly speak, I can tell that HTML template is better than others. But, if you are not web developer, you should use CMS platform. Among all CMSs, Wordpress is more user-frenziedly and easy to use. There are some plugins for SEO - such as All in One, SEO Yoast etc.
I think you can use wordpress easily. A lot of plugins and themes are free on this platform and about 60% blogger are on this platform.

      1) A webpage consists basicly of HTML - that is the "language" of the web. Please explain what the "others" are.

      2) A CMS is not specific to developers. Its target users are content writers and users - not develpers.

      3) Wordpress plugins just make it easy to do SEO. Much faster and more powerfull CMS coud be CouchCMS, Bolt and 100 others. Problem is that they are not user friendly compared to WP.

      4) A blog platform and CMS is not the same thing- even when WP cand do both.

CMS is the technical solution that allows average users to update their sites. When you're talking about business settings there's usually a developer of some sort who builds the site.

CMS project can and often will target both developers and end users, and it depends a lot on project wether the end user ultimately chooses the CMS. But it should not matter as long as they can update the site.

WordPress is not anything unique from the UI side. There's a lot of systems that are easy enough. Actually WordPress' default way of presenting the pages is fairly cumbersome.

The thing that WordPress does differently is the theme engine. Themes are much more complicated than templates that many other CMSes have, but they allow all sorts of applications. This is one reason for the ecosystem around WordPress.

As others have stated, WordPress is the easiest to work with. You don't need to have as much coding experience and there is a lot of free training and information on how to use it. YouTube is a great resource for instructional videos on how to build a WordPress website. There are tons of free themes, as well. That being said, no theme or template (free or paid) is going to give you exactly what you need. You are going to have to make changes to your site that the theme or template doesn't provide. Like moving your banner from the left side to the right side. Or changing the font face in the H1 tag. Or making a table for data that you want to display. There are plugins available for most of those things, but too many plugins will slow your site down. Consider going back to YouTube and watching some free videos on basic HTML programming and how to customize using CSS.

Can you please stop mindlessly repeating this stuff? Especially since you basically contradict yourself later in your comment.

It depends on the site and the project if WordPress is easy to work with or not. If you need to customize the theme basic HTML knowledge isn't sufficient. Many commonly used systems have template engines that allow non-developers to edit something that looks like standard HTML with some special tags. That's much easier to work with.

WordPress is a publishing tool that does very little in itself. The core only has search engine friendly URLs, and some redirection functionality that I consider SEO-related. WordPress core doesn't hurt SEO, but it also doesn't do that much.

Technical on-page SEO depends on the theme, and the site structure you plan and build.

Wordpress is a CMS, it's simply a MySQL database hooked up to a bazillion front end themes created by a bazillion theme developers. The success/failure all depends on the frontend theme developer & what they do with the live webpages that Googlebot is crawling.

Look at a typical Themeforest Wordpress theme, they're usually bloated with code that will never be used because they're trying to cater to the entire world instead of focusing on a sub-niche (something specific like SEO). Now compare an average Wordpress theme with the silo theme I built, my theme file size is 28KB, a typical Themeforest file size is around 15MB, in comparison on the files size it would take 535 of my themes to equal the same file size as a Themeforest theme.

Keep in mind my Wordpress theme is also very optimized for SEO with structured hierarchy internal links & optimized loading order in the HTML source code (Wikipedia style). While a typical Themeforest theme is all hype ($$) when they mention anything related to SEO on their sales pages because they're visual designers & usually don't have a clue about SEO.

The reason places like Themeforest make so many sales is because pretty sells like a mofo, while SEO is almost always an afterthought by theme buyers (SEO fail).

That's a very poor reason to choose a theme. There's places like Themeforest that have no barrier of entry, and everyone can cook up their own paid theme. Some of those are world-class in both design and SEO, and others are some of the worst crap I've ever seen.
