Who here does it and what's your past history with it?

Now for the newbies out there or even the so called "experts", before leaving a comment on this thread please make sure you understanding what I'm asking.

I'm talking about the following:

I look up a specific keyword in the SERPS: let's say "how to lose weight fast." (generic but whatever).

I find a top site How to Lose Weight Fast: 3 Simple Steps, Based on Science. Why did I pick this? Because the kw is included in the URL. And it's top 3 on the first page based on my IP address. And it's a blog. Yay, an actual competitor.

Anyway, I go to ahrefs or whatever tool you use to find broken links - maybe senuth or whatever; I add that exact URL. From there I look at the broken links. What does that mean? GREAT, an opportunity. I take the list of sites with the broken link and I find their contact info. Great. I send them an e-mail about considering adding my link instead because the one they have currently doesn't work and why they should do it blah blah blah.

Cool. Now you guys get what I'm talking about with broken link strategy. And I've probably revealed an extra SEO strategy. But then again, I want to know if it's still effective......

So.............. back to the question. What's your experience with it? What's the response rate? And what's the success rate of them actually changing the link for you?

THANKS

I have been using this technique since few months back. My successful rate is around 4 - 5%. I have sent over 300 mails and got 10 - 15 backlinks.

I have tested this when I was trying to gather backlinks for my first website . I spent almost 4 weeks to do the technique and all I got was 8 backlinks ! The success Rate is really low . I suggest Guest Blogging and Web 2.0 Articles . If you spend time on this , at least you know you get more links than " Broken Link Technique " .

Those are low numbers. Are you guys using any type of tool such as buzzstream to find the contact for you and provide the email template?

It's a good method but it should not be your main method due to its low hit rate, but you can do broken link building SEO strategy in the 'background' while doing others as well.

This is pretty much guaranteed to result in low percentages when someone goes knocking on doors with their hands out begging.

Who cares If you have a link, everyone & their brother has relevant links.

Forget the quest for percentages, be human, talk shop multiple times to the same webmasters that matter.

I've got multiple links from direct competition & asked them to create an affiliate network that I monetized with on my own traffic. Done deal after a few emails chatting about the niche.
