How much does authority does 301?

Need an SEO expert to help me out here please. Wondering what % of power does a 301 redirect pass?

E.g. if I redirect a strong domain to a weak domain, will that help my weak domain?

    Not an SEO expert, but a few years ago I heard of a blackhat technique where 301 redirects were used to pass the pangerank on to another domain that receives the redirect. So going off that only, I would assume rather high power.

    Also, just by virtue of SEO, it is difficult to give a percentage as no one (but the search engines) have an empirical formula for this.

        I figured out that much. The question was why would you want to increase the weak domain's authority though a 301 as opposed to regular links from the strong to the weak?

        As opposed to increasing the strong domain further by directing any power the weak one has to the strong one?

          Because a strong domain 301 to a weak domain will pass more link power than merely some backlinks from the strong domain to the weak domain.

    Yes it works, it's a good way to pad out your PBN links. Don't overdo it, though.

    Also, you'll pass penalties through the 301's if the previous domain was nuked for some reason.

    You're never going to figure out a percentage loss for a 301 redirect so If that's what you're thinking, forget it.

    When you 301 a URL it's like anything else related to backlinks, strong link profiles pass authority, weak link profiles won't do anything to rank a page.

    You tell us, does the domain/URL being 301 redirected have a strong link profile?
