Long tail keywords on PPC

Why not? Search engine marketing is about targeting the right keywords so that you can present the right offer to the right audience. When a person do a search online, there is an intent to do something (be it buying a product, researching on a product, or finding more information about a particular topic)

And I believe most people who are into serious research won't type in one, two or three words phrase. They will type in long tail keywords. This is why I am a strong believer that log tail ppc keywords still work.

Hi zijian,

Anyone telling you "the days of long tail keywords are long over" is someone you should add to your ignore list, if anything, they are more important than ever.

I would suspect that someone making such a claim is simply "link baiting" and knowingly publishing wrong information. A lot of folks make a good income from spreading wrong information.

The days of longtail stuffing are long over. G initially encouraged a certain level of synonymous variations, people started writing tailout scripts and programs to generate 250k permutations based on the same keyword, G no longer approves that sort of thing and if you are able to sleaze through keyword stuffing instead of potato your QS will most likely suffer accordingly.

You are right about one thing, people have started writing "tailout scripts and programs". Google is one of those people, the latest version of the AdWords Editor from Google now includes this very feature.

I suppose if someone considers contextual suggestions to be the same as thousands of permutations of "the keyword, teh keyword, tthe keyword," then yes, they do include that feature.

Hi jakesellers,

I don't know about "contextual suggestions", I was specifically referring to the "Keyword multiplier" feature that creates large numbers of permutations, not suggestions. It also instantly checks the search volume for for each permutation. You can use it to create large lists of longtail keywords.

Have you tried testing for yourself. Dig some longtail keywords in your niche. Type them into Google and see if there are any TARGETED ADS displaying. It's obviously in Google's best interest to display as broad as possible. And in yours as tight as possible.

But you can answer your question this way and you can do it in a few minutes with a Good Keyword Tool.

I'm just beginning out on PPC and looking at PPC as a means of driving traffic to my salesletter. Looking to target all the long tail keywords first instead of actually targeting for any of the ads that cost me more than 10 cents since I'm newbie on this.

I recently did some research on searches containing different numbers of words (i.e. short, medium and long-tail keywords), and found that long-tail keywords often cheaper and were easier to achieve those higher positions.

I also found that since people making long-tail searches are typically more specific in their needs, long-tails present a great opportunity to write highly targeted and tailored ads and achieve a strong CTR. What's more, as people making long-tail searches are often further along in the buying cycle and more willing to buy, conversion rates were also found to be higher for long-tail searches.

The number of keywords that trigger the paid ads in major search engines have actually declined lately. The reason is not so much the world recession or paid search budget decrease. The real reason is that average users started using much longer keyword queries to find the content they want and advertisers are yet to adopt to these massive changes in search engine's users behavior.

Most of the advertisers in Google AdWords tend to use pretty restrictive keywords, often exact phrases or even exact matches in order to have better control over who will see their ads. Unfortunately, the good old days of driving lots of traffic with short exact match keywords might be over. This means pay per click campaigns (especially Google AdWords ones) will now have to be made out of broad matches with lots of campaign negative keywords tied to them, or else you might not be able to drive your targeted amount of traffic to the website.

I still think it working!

Long tail keyword is good for searching and will definitely gives good result on SERP. If it still work in SE then will also work on PPC.

all keywords can be effective,whether long tail or generic keywords.

It all depends on what your goals are and what sort of budget you have.If you have the money to spend on general keywords,then that is fine.

Also,there is no point in adding long tail keywords if they have a very low search volume which will bring you no results.
