Hello,

How does image sharing websites like flickr.com, pinterest.com, photobucket.com, tinypic.com, etc help in SEO? Should we add the website link in the description when we upload an image? Can we use hash tags in them? Most of the links are no-follow links. How can one generate traffic to their website?

Thanks!

  • Yes, you should add relevant images with proper description and hashtags (as per the niche) to these websites. They are no-follow but you can generate a good traffic with the help of it. Yo can also consider adding your messenger details and email id so that it can be easier to contact you.

Image sharing is important, keep doing it.

But the topic here is SEO, and you just pointed out yourself that image sharing does nothing to help.

I don't much believe in the "direct traffic" angle either. Why would people want to see your site? What could you have in the image that could persuade them to call you? Why'd they open the image in the first place? If you have excellent answers to these questions - well, go ahead then.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.

Image sharing websites for SEO ? I don't see that happening. Only if they allow links in description, but in that case that means they are sketchy and full of spam. So better without.

I use pinterest but as a social media, not as SEO purpose. Because they all have no-follow links nowadays. If you don't get human attention, it's worthless. And if you do , that's not SEO.

One thing that I found interesting, is that sharing on G+ and adding relevant tags, they act as actual search engine keywords, and people find my post and therefore my website. But that's the only relevant exception I found.

Its good idea to engage image sharing sites but what are you posting there matters. You can post infographics and product images and make sure to include ALT tags, hash tags, title and description of the image and yes image sharing can also drive traffic to your website.

Pinterest will allow you to create a photo gallery or a photo mosaic about your business. You can feature images of your products, services and your latest offers through a convenient clipboard. Customers can follow you on Pinterest but you can easily refer them back to your official site.

There seems to be an awful lot of sig spammers who think image sharing is the best. In case any non bot reads this and wonders if they should try it note how none of these people explains how it's supposed to help.

    This is pointless.

No. The number of visitors isn't, and can't be, a search ranking factor. Even Google doesn't see the traffic stats for most sites.

Unfortunately this is the level of understanding common in the "image sharing for SEO" threads. This kind of approach isn't likely helping at all.

If you want to know what might help here's a Semrush post on using images.

TL;DR They're trying to get bloggers and other site owners to link to you by providing free images.

You're right. The backlinks you get from these sites are impotent.
      1. not potent; lacking power or ability.
      2. utterly unable (to do something).
      3. without force or effectiveness.
      4. lacking bodily strength or physically helpless.
      5. (of a male) unable to attain or sustain a penile erection.
Well, maybe not the fifth one. It's internet images, after all.

You can create backlinks using images as following ways

    1. Offer premium images and cinemagraphs to bloggers
you can setup or create a private database/library/gallery of images and cinemagraphs that you can offer to bloggers in exchange for links (through embed codes or manual link attribution for the image that they’ll choose to use for their blog posts).

    2.Reverse Image Search
Using Google’s Image Search is also a very effective process for link building, not just to find and track your original images that may have been used by other webmasters (and haven’t provided link attribution to your site), contact and get links from these sites, since they’ve already used your image(s).

    3.Link Building with Infographics
This has been one of the most sought out link and brand marketing tactics these past few years, and many have seen spikes in terms of links, brand mentions and social shares through using this technique.

Images, when added with a certain consideration, will help understand your article a lot. “A picture is worth a thousand words”. Yeah, well, probably not for Google, but it can for sure spice up a 1000 dull words, illustrate what you mean in a chart or data flow diagram, or simply make your social media efforts more attractive. They emphasize the title or subject of the post. and can also play an important role in conversion.
