This type of thing could really vary. Is your website using Wordpress with some sort of plugin? I don't think it would be too "out of the ordinary" for your landing pages to have a URL 2-3 directories deep.

Why are you not talking to "them"?
        Are you not doing research?
        Ask them why, how, etc.

If has a ?= or something like that in the url, that's for
        internal database, record keeping, etc.

You can put ?= at the end of any url, and it makes no difference.
        go to warriorforum.com/?=whatever

Your browser ignores everything after that.

Anyway, it might be for tracking, which is common.

Why really cares about the url? Have you ever searched on amazon
or a similar website? The urls are always filled with extra shtuff.

But if you hire someone, why not have a dialogue with them?

You should be able to do testing like that yourself. If not, you
better start learning or you will always be at the mercy of other
people even for tasks this simple.

And you really, really, really, need to talk to them about parameters,
like when, how, what, why.....how they will interpret things. If
        not, how do you know?

There is no normal length for any url.

Which system are you using to run the tests? It may or may not be normal for that system.

Also, make sure you're not viewing some sort of preview version. If your conversion optimizing consultant sent you links to look at that's probably ones you're viewing.

The systems I've used had different tactics to display the different versions, so no long URLs on the production sites. But I can't make any sweeping statements after having used two systems of the all possible ones out there.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
