Hostgator blocks site due to high CPU usage

First of all I am not a technical guy. I am on hostgator shared hosting. My site was blocked/ taken offline by hostgator due to high CPU usage. When I checked the hostgator awsats I noticed that the xmlrpc.php file was accessed by a bot from France 533,000 times in a couple of hours which would have caused the high CPU usage and made hostgator block my site. Can anyone tell me how I can avoid getting into this problem again. My site is consists of about 150 posts and without any videos or amazon scripts. Thanks.
