yes.. its harmful for your website..
make quality backlinks through verified and best tools.. like as GSA SER, Scrapebox. SEO nuke and FCS networker..
manual back-linking is also the best

They're useless links like that keyword stuffed nofollow link in your forum sig.

OK, lets say you got thousands of non-harmful backlinks and then WHAT?

In fact, I've tried it once and many links can be showed on Google webmaster tool, I think there are some link juice to my website more or less. I just wonder whether it's harmful.

I don't know if they're going to be harmful, but they're most certainly useless. Search engines don't care much about automatically generated backlinks. Quality over quantity is the remedy in this case.

STAY AWAY. One great quality backlink is much better than 1000 average ones, let alone spammy ones that hurt your site. Remember Quality over Quantity. Go and earn some great links and the results will speak for themselves.

If you don't believe me then run two websites, split test, run your auto generated backlinks on one, then spend some time to create great content and earn a couple of good links on the other. Use similar quality on-page and look at the difference you get.

I would just earn the links from the get go though, save you money on tools, headaches on disavow and spammy links.

So, what you're saying that if your competition decide to stuff shitty sites
with links to your site, they will effectively kill it?

Oh BTW, who is the judge what is 'so-so', 'good' or 'great backlink'?
Is there some person at Google sitting in dark room somewhere in Google's basement
and checking sites for spammy and great backlinks and then place "approve" sticker?

Uh, well, It's algorithmic. I assure you that one backlink could potentially be a billion times more powerful then another. I've personally observed sites that are ranking on extremely competitive keywords with very few links.

Are you talking about link Google want you mark as no-follow or report as spam?

Well, I know sites without backlinks listed in top 20, sooo... what is your point?

Yes there is, it's an algorithm. As I mentioned in my post. That was the point.

I wonder if 'spammy' backlinks actually hurt your site.

Not that I'm trying to condone or promote spammy backlinks (I don't)... but if that was the case, i.e. that spammy backlinks hurt your site...

...then a competitor could come along and create spammy backlinks to your site and hurt your SEO.
