I went through the first 2 sites in your list and both requiter payments. One of them does actually offer "free" listing but requires a backlink.

First of all, you have no clue as to the PR of a webpage.

Second, the reason nobody "knows" about this list,
is because like all lists of this nature, it's junk.

I know of at least 3 places to buy $5 Rolex watches.
Like I'm going to post them because nobody knows
    about them?

    Pure junk.

I cannot believe anyone with any brains and even
a smidgeon of SEO knowledge would ever be
thankful for, let alone use, this junk.

    Complete waste of time.

I appreciate your little and loud complaint Paul, that was cute.

However I seem to have trouble remembering when sharing directories hurt anyone? Just because you see no relevance does not mean others cannot benefit from them

Alright, I'm surprised no one has asked this: Who still submits to directories? Aren't directories a thing of ancient SEO?

Didn't they get replaced by social bookmarking sites?

I remember owning a handful of directories some 10 years ago. In fact, back then you could throw a directory script up on a domain with PR and people would buy them for fortunes. It was nice (selling them that is) while it lasted.

I happen to be very successful at SEO but haven't wasted/spent a minute on them in (probably) a decade. Not saying that to brag nor to be a douche, but am honestly curious: Anyone here who actually crushes it with SEO still use directories? Curious how Google truly looks at them.

I have a way to get on 2000+ directories with the click of a button.

Years ago, I clicked the button and a few days later, my pages moved up in Google.

I clicked that button 4 months ago... nothing's happened yet.

I, therefore, say there's no benefit from directories... (maybe there are some directories that help... but I don't know them).

So, how do YOU benefit from directories? Or were you just being cute in your reply to Paul?

Again it is always going to depend on your niche. For example straight PPC sites may not benefit from the kind of diversity directories can provide when done correctly, as opposed to lets say a cb niche review site, which in my opinion are the ones who benefit most from article marketing (then & now). I am not spending any absorbent amount of time on it by any means -

haha Well that certainly is a linear way of looking at how to do a test to see whether or not something is still effective or not....

It is a good way to test whether mass submitting to random directories works.

Every now and again, I do something that worked again. For as long as it works. When it stops working, I say it stopped working. Sometimes, I draw broader conclusions.

Once upon a time, I used to write 10 articles, submit each one to ezinearticles.com and 9 other ezines and I'd be #1 or 2. Then, about once every 2 months, I'd write another article and post it on another 10 ezines.I was #1 for ab machine and #2 for ab machines doing that. One day, I noticed that my technique got me only to the top of page 2. And I didn't stay there long.

I still rank with articles... But I changed what I do with them... Linear or not, it saves me a lot of headaches, money and time.
