Reading in the correct way the SERP CTR data

Hello Warriors,
when we read the yearly "ctr serp" data from MOZ ( example : https://moz.com/blog/google-organic-...-rates-in-2014 ) it says that "85% of the clicks go under the ads and the remaining 15% on the ads).

Then it also says that the first position gets 31% of the clicks, the second 14% and the third 9.85%.

When it refers to the "31%" does it refers to the 31% of the 85% clicking under the ads or the 31% of the total volume of the search?

And another things, the 4th position would be the one under the 3map pack (if it's available), correct?

Thank you in advance for the answers,
Andrea

I have no idea what moz is doing but I do have pages ranked at 1st position on organic SERPs. I personally average close to 30% according to Webmaster Tools. That's mostly with 3 PPC ads above organic search listings.

There's so many different things that could influence CTRs on the SERPs, it's impossible to zero in on an exact percentage. You can get ballpark percentage numbers for reference but that's about it.

Keep in mind some SERPs don't return 10 organic listings on the first page of the search results.

Thank you . I really appreciate it. Of course I guess the 30% is the 30% of the total volume of the searches (and not the 30% of the 85% remaining traffic below the ads).

      Hey,
CTR have no relation to SERP, Both are diff things, CTR is related to PPC and SERP Related to SEO. It is possible that if your PPC campaign is live and you are getting more traffic then your SERP may effect.

I think that you are really confused about what SERP and CTR is.
