can a FB page rank just as high compare to a normal website? I have a FB page right now which is easy to manage and create content. Set up a new website is much harder.

Once you will need a website to get some money out of it. But if you want to rank fast you will need a original page where the content is being shared like crazy.

I have a facebook fan page and a blog. I prefer a blog because I have control of the hosting my blog domain is on...your facebook fan page can be taken down for any reason whatsoever. By the way, your fan page can rank on Google just like any other page.

Facebook pages can rank as high or higher, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't make a website. You want to direct people from Facebook to your website and get them on an email list. Forget about building 'likes' on your fan page, you'll have to pay FB everytime you want to reach them.

Facebook pages can rank just fine, however it would be foolish to pour all your resources into something you do not own and could have taken away from you at any moment without warning.

thanks, that really hit home for me. just imagine how devastated i will be if that happens not to mention the amount of hassle you get from FB.

Why would anyone's business be at the whim of FB?
convenience and established popularity? it takes lot of work to build a website from scrath but i get your point. I will do both to be honest but I will use fb for marketing.

Your web host could shut you down as well. So?
      but that rarely happens right?

It rarely happens, but the point is that it does not matter if it does. YOU own the domain. You can setup with another host and put your site back up. No real harm done.

Yes, a Facebook page can yield the same result as a website if it optimize right. Problem with that is your FB page can be taken down for any cause then your business is dead. As were your blog is your forever hope this help.

No, sorry. You can't optimize a FB page as well as a website,
nor can it yield the same results. They are as different as
      night and day.

Why would anyone's business be at the whim of FB?

I could care less what FB does. It will never affect my business,
even if I had a FB page.

You people obviously do not have real businesses.

Your web host could shut you down as well. So?

I have a bunch of facebook accounts, what Paul said is pretty accurate. FB accounts are "throw away" I wouldn't build a business on one. I've had a few accounts banned and I assure you, I did not do anything that should warrant a ban. You can make 100's of FB accounts a day if you know what you're doing. Obviously FB accounts have no real value. A domain with a website on it are property and property has real value.

FB page can be super active and thus attract a very high traffic even more than other websites that are in place today. One good thing with facebook is that you already have the platform and all you need is create content that is attractive and will blow people into discussion. It forms a good way just to give response and also view the people's ideas about the services you are offering to them. Keep the page active and you will earn from it through marketing and advertisements.

Why not use both a fb page and a website with a blog?
