    Focus on content and content marketing. Build a website that has a lot of fresh content. You also need to make sure that your site's structure is well-optimized for SEO.

    For content marketing, target websites that are also content-based and have a very good SEO/rank standing. You may use an SEO plugin for browsers to search for good, high PR websites to submit your content to.

    First of all do proper keyword research on keyword planner
    Select a keyword which got less competition with high searches..
    Try to select long tail keyword,( if your site is new).
    Now include that keyword on Title, Headings, Body and Meta Description..
    Once you published that article, get some backlinks for that article...
    Google will rank your post according to no of backlinks plus quality.

    As others have said, I would focus on keyword research and creating quality content to target those keywords in the first couple of months. In most cases I wouldn't expect to see much traffic for the first few months (although you may pick up some long tail phrases).

    As your site ages you can start to build some links to improve rankings and target higher competition phrases.

    When people tell you to write quality content they are only giving you 25% of the formula that gets your website ranked. The best (in my opinion) way to rank a new website is to rank write an amazing, in depth, with images, article that has no less than 1,500 words about WHAT YOUR READER WANTS TO READ.

    NEVER write for the search engines, ALWAYS write for your reader. Once your article has been written, and written well, you then need to market that content to other people who may link to you. Link building is 70% of the ranking game, 20 % is awesome content, 10% is onsite SEO.

      When it comes to quality content, there is no specific limit in words, 450 words within the blog post content can rank in Google.

        Although that might be true, if you write 1,500 words instead of 400 and make it look REALY nice and accurate it tends to be solid link bait therefore ranking better than that 400 word article you mentioned.

          That sounds like Brian Dean (more is better).

          Really the content length depends on the niche & what traffic expects. Look at dafont.com, no articles, just a few images of fonts & download link per page. Pages rank, traffic gets what they want, everyone is happy.

    For a 1 month old site focus mostly on onsite SEO. Add good content and make sure you're sites optimized, also add links from social networking sites they usually are the first places people talk about and link to new sites.

    Start slowly adding some authority Web 2.0 and blog posts (pbn maybe) but drip them in slowly and over time increase frequency; don't post 100 in one day.

    New websites... Old websites. They both enjoy getting a backlink from relevant websites that have some authority! They do not like garbage links that everyone and their neighbor spam on. They also have the word "consistent" in common. They love it when good stuff happens and it happens often. They will love you for ever and shower you with page one rankings and traffic. So be nice to your new and old websites.

    Before you will start link building, send some quality traffic to your site, and only then start link building. Also to make it look natural in google eyes, send some traffic to pages where you got your links pointing to your site. Good luck!
