Does a free PBN still work

Hi fellow warriors,

Some time ago I learned that I should use a private blogging network to create backlinks to my website(s).
So what I wanted to do is create a pbn with both real domains and free domains on like blogger and tumblr. On these blogs I wanted to publish different articles all related to the website it was linking to.
Is this oke to use? Or is this also dangerous to use right now and might give me a penalty?

Thanks in advance

It does not matter if your PBN is "free" or "paid" it only matters that it has power.

Yes free PBNs can work if you are building them right and avoiding a footprint.

      This reply is right on!

PBNs still work, as long as you build them the right way and make sure there are no Footprints of any kind!!

Using self-hosted blogs is the best way to go. Just make sure you do not leave any footprints and evidence that shows they are your blogs.

What you should do is get a brand new Hosting Service for each new Blog. Also, use a brand new account when buying the domain name. If you can, ask family and/or friends if you can use their information to use when buying a brand new domain name and a hosting package.

Basically, you do not want anyone to know these blogs were created by you. You have to make sure of that, otherwise they can actually hurt your rankings!

These are some of my tips!

Just go for it, and if you do, let us know how it goes!

PBN still works and it must not abuse for spamming of keywords purposes but creating blog sites to expand the influence of the main site to reach the target audience and benefits them in many ways.

    Free domains as blogger.com, wordpress.com is web2.0.
PBN with a real domain is stronger than free domains.
You should use both of them by mixing.
Depend on the competition of your selected KWs, you use more web2.0 or PBN. Also try to use other backlinks as blog/forum comments, social signal ...
Always carefully with google sandbox, google panda...

It's not really dangerous, but in my opinion it is kind of a waste of time and risky unless you are using your own domains. By themselves, sites created on these free Web 2.0 sites are not going to provide much strength. You have to work to build them up by throwing links at them. Tumblr, Blogger, etc., can take away your site from you at any time if they feel like it or change their outbound link policy to nofollow (as others have done). Then you built it up for nothing.

If you use your own domain, you remain in control. even if you host it at Tumblr, for example, and they shut it down, since you own the domain you can easily move it elsewhere and retain the authority you built up.

If you are building them by hand then you are fine. If you start building this type of link using software then you can get into trouble. If building free pbn's you need to juice them up with some good quality tier 2 links though.

      There is zero difference.

He was asking about the dangers of getting a penalty. Using software to build web2.0's and such can easily lead to a penguin penalty. It makes all the difference.

No it doesn't. There is zero difference between automating the creation of 2.0 site and manually creating one. They are the same thing.

I was under the impression that the main reason PBN's worked was because they retained the PR rating of the domain that you bought and used for each blog site? If you are using free sites without your own domain, it still works?

They work because they pass juice... You can create a site on tumblr for free, make it have juice (links) then link from it to your money site. Or you can buy a domain that still have juice... make sure you keep the backlinks live so it keeps having juice, and link from it to your money site... In either case, you can link from any page but the page with the most juice passes most juice (assuming you don't split the juice).

The point Mike was making is the real problem. Tumblr, Blogger, Wordpress... if a site is free on their platform, they own it and can do anything they want with it, including closing it down.

You can lose everything in a second... And you can't just transfer the site... and keep the juice of all those backlinks you created. You can only transfer the site... Then you need to go point all those backlinks to your new pages urls. Not always doable, always a big pain in the butt.

I personally wouldn't want to spend time/money building links to a domain I did not own. Over time things happen, accounts get closed for inactivity or other BS reasons, sometimes services just fold up. I do have a bunch of web 2.0s (lots...) but I didn't try very hard to build links to them. I also didn't try very hard to build them, most of the content was written by a guy from the Philippines who wanted an iphone 4 and a few other things. Never heard from him again after that. No idea what he's up to now, for all I know he's munching on barbecued iguana sitting under a palm tree somewhere.
