You don't have $3-$10 to invest to a domain? You could even find a hosting package that comes with one.

Of course any domain can rank, but they look very unprofessional. Alexa is completely pointless as always, so do not concentrate on that.

Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

I have never seen "any" .tk website appeared on Google Search Results. EVER! So I think the best solution is to buy an appropriate domain name and using Blogspot or Free Hosting Service to start doing business.

What do you mean Alexa is completely pointless? Their ranking feature is not accurate or sth?

Everyone is so concerned with Alexa rank. He is not saying it's not accurate. Although it is not 100% accurate. It's close and can be used as a general rule of thumb of what the rank of a website is.

That's all Alexa is though. Alexa is simply just a database of all websites on the web and their rankings globally and country wide. Your Alexa rank is based on how many people come to your website. This metric is created by assuming 1 in every thousand or so visitors is using the Alexa toolbar.

The Alexa rank metric is not pointless but it has nothing to do with ranking in Google. It can be used to get an idea of how popular a website is. But get it out of your head that Alexa has anything to do with IM, SEO, conversions, SMM, etc,. It's just a metric.

TLR All Alexa is is a database that ranks websites based on how many people visit a particular website with the Alexa toolbar.

There is a difference between having little money,
        and having no money.

How can you go into "business" without
        a business plan?

Why do people think the internet is a fast, easy
        way to riches?

A free .tk would be worthless. A paid .tk might
        offer something....emphasis on "might."

Blogspot is a good option, but for who and what?

If you have no money, get a day job. I never gave up
        mine until last year.

Sure you can start cheap, even free. But you need
money in the bank even for that.

Here's a better idea for little money. Register a
dot com, then use blogger and host it with google.
For free. That domain would be less than a buck
        a month.

I just wonder how you are creating websites and
logos with no money. You need a computer, an
internet connection, and a way to collect money.

Like I said, there's no money, and there's little money.

You can't just hang a shingle and open a shop.

Relieved that you are not opening an SEO shop.

If I lost my entire business and somehow all of my money and investments disappeared, the first thing I would do is get a job.

Granted, I doubt you would do what I would do with $1,000, but you need to start somewhere. Domain+Pricacy+Annual Hosting is about $50 on the cheap end.

What I would do with $1,000 (in case anybody wants to know.) Split the money up between two projects, hosting+2 domains+privacy, 50x 500 word pages of elite content from iwriter, a PLR MMR book that helps people solve a problem, and an aweber account. This would get a small site started where I would do affiliate marketing and try to build a list, starting with improved iwriter content, and then posting my own content daily. I would talk on forums/social media and try to get traffic to the site via helpful posts. On the second domain I would spend awhile building a decent landing page for my ebook, which I spent a bunch of time rewriting and improving, then I would get it up on clickbank/jvzoo, spend a bunch of time recruiting affiliates via any means possible, then promote the book on my mailing list while building a second list of customers. Then repeat as necessary. I'm sure after a year of posting daily, helping people, list building, and trying to get a new clickbank product out every month, I'm sure I would be above 50k, and there would be a pretty big pile of assets to scale up off of.

Ranking doesnt depend on the price of the domain/host. It depends on what kind of SEO you do on it.

In 99% of all free web hosting where they give you a domain they are simply registering it for you but they own it.If your site blows up good or turns out even the least bit decent you are pretty much screwed cause you are stuck with that hosting company.

Like it was stated above go with Blogger. Google, proven through case studies will rank .com, .net, .org and various other TLds over the ones you have named. Google gives priority to country TLDs only. So a .eu website will have a better ranking in the eu than a . us website.

If you want free go with blogger or come up with $14.00. Get an $11.00 .com (.net or .org) at namecheap.com and get yourself a $3.00 hosting package. And if you still need more free install wordpress and download a free theme. At least now you would have a chance at ranking.

Search engines dislike those free domains. You wouldnt be ranked as high with them as youd payd for a domain. Also .tk sites arent that trustable, people wouldnt go there. .tk sites are usually scam sites.

      Since dot.tk is a top google-ranked site,
in and of its own, your whole statement is
just something you heard a guy who knew a
gut say to some guy who was a friend of
      your paper boy.

That's not an argument. It's more likely that the domains aren't used that much because it's easier to get any other extension.

That's actually a good point. I'd recommend using a good and well-known registrar (such as Namecheap, an Enom reseller) to register the domain. Sometimes new and cheap web hosts go under, and your domain may go with them if they've not been careful enough with the registration.

Country TLD is a part of targeting, a ranking signal and carries some weight, but Google tends to rank anything that matches the search query.

.eu is a quite poor example because it's not really a country TLD. You don't see them ranking that often, and it doesn't seem to be that popular. Probably because not many companies or individuals actually want to build a site for the whole of EU. Compare .us to something like .de or .co.uk.

Bro, you can use it and it will be indexed in google. But the real problem of using it is that the company FreeNom can delete it anytime in any stage.
I was also a user of .cf but latterly they sold my 77,000 ranked domain. They would not give you back it again. Why not to start with blogspot.com?

Alexa stats are total horse manure, and the service is inherently very, very inaccurate. They only get actual data from the users who have their toolbar installed, and apart from that they have to make it up. It's often not in the ballpark even for major web properties, and it's totally hopeless for small ones.

I hear Alexa has some other services, but the main tool that people call Alexa and use to compare their site against competitors is based on guesswork.

So you know their method is bollocks. I'm not sure why you didn't say so in your comment.

As a random example, take a guess how rare this thing is in my home country.

All those who are saying free domains won't rank don't know what they're talking about. I recently lost my .cf domain after it reached page 2 on google. I didn't use if for anything besides testing plugins, themes, etc before I used them on my real website. But one day I was testing out a theme and in the middle of it all, it vanished. Literally. I hit update and save and it redirected me to the host instead. I thought it was an error but after trial #4, I realised they stole it.

So yes, you can use a free domain but once it starts ranking or seeing traffic you WILL LOSE IT. So I guess you can try one out for a couple months (I wouldn't advise you to go longer than that) then get a paid domain. Otherwise, you might regret it all.
