How Important Title Tag is?

In SEO point of view, how much value title tag can add in ranking? A year back, Open site explorer was ranking on top for the keyword, Backlink checker, backlink checker tool. But their title tag was just "Open Site Explorer". Does it indicate that having keyword on title tag is not important?

Though the site has been redirected to Moz now, and they have added the keyword"backllink checker" to their title.

What's your thought on it?

    Title tag is very important every website because when search engine crwal your website then first of page search then check your title tag.

      The Title tag is one of the most singular important SEO relevant elements of a website.

      Where SEO in concerned Google REALLY REALLY cares about the title of your page.

      Every page you are hoping to rank in Google should include The keyword in the title tag. The title of the website, the first heading tag, and sub heading tags are very very important.

    A title tag tells both users and search engines what the topic of a particular page is about.
    You should create a unique keyword-rich title for each page on your site.

    Moz is a large and powerful site with a lot of high quality backlinks, it can likely rank for a lot of terms without perfect on-page SEO, as long as the content gives other clues (keywords)

    Title tag is very important. Without it Google will have difficulties to recognize your website through their crawlers.

    Title tag has nothing to do with search engine ranking and this title only use by SE for snippet in search results.

    Title tag is not about ranking your title. Its just an alternate text of your title which is relevant to the title.

      This is just little something of the the bat. Imagine the Web is like a massive filing cabinet. Then it's Google's job to categorize each file by name. Google can do this only by looking at the each folder's label thumbing his way through all the files. There won't be time to open any folder. So I guess that's how important the tittle tag is.
