Dropped Down In Serps

Hey all,

I had a new site or wp blog ranked somewhere between 30-50 for a few keywords. I tracked the ranking for all the keywords on a daily basis since I created this blog, which was 25th of July.

The keywords weren't shifting a lot. Mostly staying around 30-50, when all in sudden I dropped down, now those keywords aren't even in the top 100. Most of them are around 150-180 and they're staying there.

I don't believe I did something wrong here, some manual Angela's backlinks in the beginning (3-6 a day), Social Bookmarking, Pinging and the basic stuff and then I switched over to "Traffic Bug" just over a week ago. So nothing excessive.

Do you think Google has penalized me somehow?

You're most likely seeing what Lynn Terry calls 'rank and tank'. Read more at “Rank and Tank” - The Definition | ClickNewz! Internet Marketing Blog

I assume you mean the 25th of July this year in which case it is normal for website to fluctuate in the serps for the first few months.

Yes 2009, but it's not fluctuating. It's been pretty stable for a while and then it drops and stays there.

It's called QDF (Query Deserves Freshness). It's speculated to be part of the Google ranking algorithm. When Google finds new and unique content, it gets a boost for awhile in the SERPs. Then it drops to where it "belongs" in the normal scheme of things.

Keep building links and moving forward. Don't worry about it. Age + more links with the correct anchor text will move it back up steadily.

Great, thanks a lot for that

Should I vary the anchor text often or just use the same one over and over to rank better for that particular KW

      Hi John,

It's more then just speculation, QDF was disclosed in some detail by Amit Singhal, one of Google's top engineers, during an interview with the NY Times.

Yep, rank and tank seems to suck, but in time with more links you''l hold more sway.

It's kind of a good thing really

Another vote for hammering your site with backlinks to get back to the top!

I'm also using angela's packets (well, helping a friend with his site anyway.) A combination of that plus a bunch of high pagerank blog comments pushed the site up to #2 for the top keyword. (#1 doesn't stand a chance!)

The SERP goes up and down all the time, it is like the wave of the sea. nothing to do about, just lean back and enjoy the ride as long as you dont have a broaken boat
