Hi,

I am wondering why so many people are so concern about SEO and spent all the times researching and studying how to get first page raking in Google for important keywords.

Please enlightened me if I am wrong.

SEO ranking is highly dependant on the search engine ranking algorithm. And this algorithm can change anytime.

I would not want to build a business entirely on something that is control by others.

It is like renting a place to do your selling for your offline business. Business are good until the landlord come and ask that you need to move out or want to increase the rental prices to ridiculous amount.

This business owner has no control as he does not own the place. He is just renting it.

It's the same for SEO. We are not in control. If I am to write a content in a blog and it rank well in the search engine pages, then it is fine and good. If not, it must also be fine and good.

I would rather spent effort to build up the sales funnel, make sure the sales page convert, build out my own customer databases and build a brand.... other than spent time learning SEO and trying to optimize for first page ranking for important keyword....

This is my five cents worth of opinion. I may be wrong.

If you are paying for traffic for the most part, then it may not be important to you.

But why pay for traffic, when some simple SEO can position you right up there with ads that people PAY for.

Some of this is going to depend on the niche and how competitive it is as to if you want to be paying for everything.

You should at the very least consider paying attention to seo ON SITE. This you have complete control over and can force you to be very specific on your pages - in end helping/benefiting your intended audience.

I got the title for it:

or would you rather it be

He is right, the important of SEO is overestimated. Many people waste their time on fine tuning something that is actually not convertable. The BEST SEO you can invent is to create a GREAT QUALITY product. Then everyone will pick it up and even ask you to promote it as affiliates. Here is your traffic! ))) Basic, very simple SEO is enough to do on your page. 80% of your success online is your QUALITY PRODUCT. This is where most people suck. Be better than the crowd in offering such product and it will pay off.

SEO can be very important. Like Jill said, if your buying traffic its not so important, but if your interested in getting free traffic and increasing your ROI then it can be very important. For example, I use SEO on page to define the keyword I am after. Then when I start building out links from that page with that keyword that Im interested in ranking for, its a rank and bank type of deal. Learning how to build good backlinks, combined with on site SEO strategies can rank you for whatever keyword your after. Then you can rank on the google serps for sometimes up to a year getting 1000's & 1000's of FREE traffic that is highly targeted. For example, I have one site, that gets on average 30,000 unique & highly targeted visitors per month, just by being on page 1 of the google serps. Its been like this now for almost 2 years. If you look at 30,000 visitors aint much per month if it was just some RON traffic, but when its highly targeted, it converts very well. So SEO does pay off and can be very important in your business strategy. But eh, its not for everyone! Cheers Yew Heng!

Your concern is correct for sure. That's why mainly people are looking for agencies or experts who are dealing daily with SEO and fully equipped with daily updates and algorithm changes. Because a normal blogger and basic SEO cannot manage to understand in detail.

I think one should stick to SEO or marketing fundamentals & should worry less and put more efforts in increasing the visibility of a brand which he or she is promoting. Go natural, don't game the system & you will be all right!

The way I see it there are 2 option:

Paid Traffic = No need for SEO
    Free Traffic = SEO

Also i dont think that google wont change the ranking algorithm overnight. A few minor tweaks here and there but not everything for sure.

I guess we can safely say that you have not made good money thanks to the Organic Traffic from the Search Engines? LOL

Organic Traffic from the Search Engines is the most Targeted Traffic Online - hands down!

*give this reply a thumbs up if you agree!

I don't think you really know much about SEO buddy.

Your analogy does not help the point you are tying to make. The 'Business Owner' would not care about "Renting" another place - he OWNS the Business after all, right? (not the place)

    He can make business ANYWHERE.

Do you really think there is only One Search Engine Online?

There are so many search engines online - and millions of people use them daily. Google is simply the most popular one among the bunch - NOT the only one.

And to make this reply even cooler - think about this ....

Let's say you have your own Dog Grooming Business.

What are the chances of someone Typing on a Search Engine "best dog grooming service in _________ with great prices" - BUYING your service because they found it on the first page of the search results and loved your webpage?

That is YOUR most Targeted Customer man!!

How can you not realize this?

People who use the search engine are SUPER Specific!!

That means BIG Opportunities for you - FOR A LONG TIME MY FRIEND!

People will always use a search engine.

PLUS - the only reason why websites get screwed up when Search Engine Algorithms changes is because they tried to CHEAT their Algorithms.

Websites that do everything Naturally and Ethically - don't really get screwed up.

Let me give you another breakthrough buddy ....

WHY do you think Search Engines always update their Algorithms?

To screw websites and businesses on purpose? - Heck no!!

They are always updating their Algorithms to Weed Out the website that try to Cheat the Rankings.

If you do not care about SEO at all - that is your personal decision - it has nothing to do with what SEO actually is. And you are leaving SO MUCH Targeted Traffic and Sales on the table!

Look, you do not even really have to rank on the first page of a search result all the time in order get organic traffic.

I have been blogging for years now - and I pay attention to my data and analytics - my blog's content get a lot of search engine traffic for long tail keywords I'm not even ranking on the first 5 pages of the search results.

This data alone tells us how much potential search engines have.

    I LOVE THEM!

Thanks for your opinion - I have fun talking about these topics

SEO has it's place. I use to manufacture a sporting goods product from my shop and sold to 11 different countries. Somewhere I have a screenshot of the time I had all ten positions on page one of Google. Was a great feeling. I worked my butt off studying SEO and how best to implement it for my business.

Prior to that I was an Internet Marketer. IM is a totally different beast. I learned that I can produce results very fast compared to nurturing SEO. Now when I launch a new project, it's the IM that creates the momentum, but the SEO that builds me the long term results.

I rely on all facets of marketing to achieve results. Create an SEO friendly site with on and off-page factors in place, then launch using IM tactics. With IM one can get sales on the very first day of launch. With SEO, hardly a chance.

They both have their place and if you are an online entrepreneur, it's on you to learn both.

There is nothing right or wrong here. It depends on how you build your business. List builders might want to look for other traffic sources - JVs, solo ads. Bloggers, webmasters on the other hand concern about SEO. Yes, on the other hand some people were overly obsessed about SEO and traffic until they forget the main purpose - that is to monetize the website and make money out of it.

I think that SEO is great to find your initial buyers. I know SEO is ever changing, but if I have no customers on my email list, how can I sell my products?

I think SEO is a great place to start, so you can build your list and get your first batch of customers. Your amazing, super-duper products and services keep these guys coming back and give your existing customers a reason to share with others.

Everyone here needs to think like a business owner. When it comes to lead generation sources, 1 is the worst number you can have. You don't want 1 source of traffic, you want them all.

In my business, to generate leads I do:

    SEO
    PPC
    Cold calling
    Referrals
    Networking
    Strategic partnerships
    Talking with strangers
    Linkedin

To rely on 1 is a failing strategy. You gotta be nimble and move with times. I lost a huge contract about 2 years ago and it hit me like a ton of bricks, probably about 30% revenue, had to let my assitant go. When you're complacent and relying on number 1, things will mess you up. SEO is important but its not the be all and end all. Work on it but don't make it the MAIN priority.

Sounds like most newbies, new IM'ers have found some success and now the want to go ALL in on just SEO. So many threads on wanting to build a site for SEO to get commissions. I tried that, made some money but its a business built on quick sand. Don't be too reliant.

Listen, if you are on the page 1 of Google for specific keywords you make money. You can be on the page 1 of Google (or other search engine) by using SEO or by using PPC ads. If you are willing to pay for traffic and tweak everything so that you make profit you go with PPC. If you want to get traffic for free and don't want the risk of spending more on traffic than you earn then SEO is the way to go. I can tell you: your webpage on the 1st page of Google's search results for certain keywords is gold!
