First clear your cookies from your browser before you search.

Then search for the keyword, without quotes, then append the following to the URL in the browser's address bar and press enter:
&pws=0

That extra URL parameter disables the Personalized Search feature so you can see the normal rankings without the personalized bias.

You can also use Google Chrome incognito mode.

You can also use a web proxy like the one at hidemyass.com to search from different IPs and locations; for instance, if you live in the UK and target the US market with your site, using your UK IP for the search will not yield the most accurate results.

An easier way is to just use Firefox and go to SEObook.com and register yourself and download rank checker add on and use it. Its a Free tool.

There is already a thread on the front page about this here

    http://www.warriorforum.com/search-e...ly-google.html

What seems to have been neglected to be mentioned is to set the search results to 100, and then use Ctrl+f and search for your domain, you can estimate the position after a little practice by looking at the position of the scroll bar.

No offense but that is not a good way to check a SERP position. The reason it's not a good idea is when you change the SERPs to show 100 results Google can return multiple SERP listings for multiple domains that you won't always see when you do the same search while showing 10 results on the SERPs.

Thanks for that Yuke, although I have checked them both ways with both 10's' and 100's I have never noticed a difference with my particular results, so it never occured to me they would be different, that's a good tip worth knowing.

There is no such thing as normal search results.

Believe it or not, there are real people in real places, using real
    devices, making real searches daily.

No matter how hard you try, you cannot turn off
things that google uses to give each searcher a
    different experience.

So, if you actually did a true "nobody nowhere" search,
the results would be be meaningless. Those searches
    do not exist.

If you were disappointed in your results today, lower your standards tomorrow.

I agree on personalized SERPs but that's not an end of the world scenario for checking SERP positions.

Example, If a keyword delivers 5,000 traffic a month I don't need to know If 2,000 of that traffic is getting personalized SERPs. As long as the keyword delivers targeted traffic that's all I care about. Move on to the next keyword & repeat...

Also, being #1 without personalized SERPs is going to deliver traffic assuming traffic exist for the keyword compared to being #87 on the SERPs.
