The amount of traffic does not help to rank high in the SERP's.
However, the referrals which you are getting to your site if they are from relevant sources and from relevant pages linking to the most relevant page of your site then they will be counted as backlinks. But there is also another factor that the links will have to be do-follow otherwise they are not going to help you rank higher.

(direct)[(none)] - Visitors who visited the site by typing the URL directly into their browser. 'Direct' can also refer to the visitors who clicked on the links from their bookmarks/favorites, untagged links within emails, or links from documents that don't include tracking variables (such as PDFs or Word documents).
[referral] - Visitors referred by links on other websites. (Links that have been tagged with campaign variables won't show up as [referral] unless they happen to have been tagged with utm_medium=referral. )
[organic] - Visitors referred by an unpaid search engine listing, e.g. a search.

A great way to drive traffic to your blog is to post engaging, interactive content on it.

  • Organic is better. You know that it's real and you don't have to fool yourself. You just need patience.

In addition to all the above, the "bounce rate" may be more of a factor. Even if you're getting a lot of organic traffic, if the visitor clicks away from your page immediately, Google sees this as the page was not relative to the query searched for.
Make sure you have something on your site to keep people there. Videos work well. Also, as you've heard before, the content has to be good and answer the question people are searching for.
A strategy that leads people from one page to the next like many celebrity sites have when they show interesting photos is another tactic to keep your traffic on your site.
    Best of luck
