I agree. Doing them right means producing original content and publishing in right place. Then they can be a nice source of 1st tier backlinks. I love creating unique bite sized content for web 2.0 strategy.

Personally, I shy away from them.

Not because they don't work, but because they aren't very future-proof. I would be surprised if they continue to be effective into the coming years.

I could be wrong, but if I'm going to pour hundreds of hours into my projects, I want to maximize the chances of that revenue stream still existing a few years from now.

So, knock yourself out if that's the route you wish to take. Just know there are higher quality approaches that will help solidify your earnings.

If you want to rely on your sites for income, you should take the approach that generates solid earnings. There's nothing worse than getting Google slapped when you need that money to pay bills.

They are very effective. I use expired ones to rank website. These have more power etc and this is a great article about finding them.

With the recent buzz around ensuring your website is mobile ready, social signals and other factors that influence your rankings, it is easy to put link building on the back burner. Although several types of links are now ineffective or even harmful, the effectiveness of a good link building strategy cannot and should not be overlooked.
When done correctly, Web 2.0 link building can still work very well and while these links alone are not going to help you dominate a competitive vertical, they can make a huge impact on local search and in less competitive spaces.

According to MOZ - Web 2.0 was many things; it was a mock-worthy internet buzzword, it was a trend in website focus, and it was a link building strategy used by a surprising number of marketers. We don’t think of it as web 2.0 these days, but the same principles apply, if you’re able to take advantage of them.

web 2.0 buffer sites defintely work for building links, as long as you create quality content that won't get deleted and then build links to it so it gets some power behind it.

  • Hi,

Yes they do but it would usually take some time before you can notch up your rank in search engines. They still work though.I think the fastest way to rank would be good quality PBNs.
