The new trend is to send send social signals to your content. These social signals provide to things.

Note: Social Signals are the new backlinks! For those who don't know, social signals are simply how many times your content (web page) has been shared via social media.

Seo benefits - Google use social signals as away to see how much your authority has. The more social signals that you have, the better you site will rank.

Immediate traffic- When your site is shared via social media then you will simply get more traffic.

Not even close.

I know because I have websites with pages high, high up and not one darn social signal.

I have pages that have social signals, but not backlinks, and they ain't on page 1.

Look up the meaning of the words cause and correlation then apply then rethink social signals and backlinks.

I never said that throwing a bunch of social signals at your page would get you on page 1 and I never said that you have to have social signals to rank well.

I am saying social signals help you rank better.

You need to understand that if you getting a backlink from an authority site that never sends you any traffic is part of google's algorithm. The link juice is diminished.

While at the same time...If you are driving traffic to your site via social media, that traffic helps you get more authority because google use visits to your site and where that traffic comes from to help determine your rankings.

When I say the new backlink...I am not saying that it acts like a backlink. I am saying it's replacing backlinks slowly but sure because of the way it generates organic traffic that has low bounce rate and signals google that people like your site.

Organic traffic and bounce rate is a factor in how well your site will rank in google. Therefore social signals are replacing getting authority backlinks that never send you any real traffic.

That's what I thought you said, and that's what I'm disagreeing with.

And I'm also disagreeing with what you say about bounce rate. Because there's no way Google can figure out why you have a high or low bounce rate.

You can have a high bounce rate because people find what they need on the page they land on, they don't need to look through your site for anything else, they can just call you or click on your adsense link.

I'm disagreeing with the part about Google using number of visits to determine rank.

Because it's illogical. Because it's thinking in circles.

Because I publish a page and the second Google indexes it, it puts it at the bottom of page 7. Three days later, with no traffic of any kind, it puts it at the top of page 3. 2 Days later, with no traffic of any kind, it's #11... And it starts getting traffic, not much, but there's traffic. But it does not move up from number 11. Usually, after a month or two, it starts dropping...

Depending on the authority of the domain, it drops to the bottom of page 2 or the bottom of page 27.

I have seen and have sites with no presence on social media that rank fine and have observed sites that get 100k visitors a month from social media and don't rank for anything.

How would Google know how much traffic goes over a link it that isn't on Google? If Google factored that data in when sites used Google Analyticals, that would be pretty unfair to it and the remaining 80% of the web that doesn't use it. It can't... Sorry, who ever told you that is wrong.

Wrong, how is Google aware that traffic is going from a site that isn't Google, to a site that isn't Google. Google uses Click Through Rates (CTR) from Google SERPs.

I agree it generates traffic and that's wonderful but it doesn't replace backlinks. Sorry no.

How does Google know the bounce rate of websites that are not Google? ... Bounce rate is the ratio of clicks that come from a Google SERP, where the visitor hits the back button, then clicks on another search result, very quickly...

You seem pretty confused about what Google is and what Google does and what is generally possible. You seem to think that Google is spying on the entire internet and everybody connected to it.

Your advice might be good but Google works the same way it has since 1998. I can't think of a single algorithm update that has done anything that doesn't have a goal of either; improving the quality of the search results, reducing spam, and rewarding sites that provide a good user experience.

knowing Page Rank officially is dead many years ago as we know it
the PR bar has died officially

there is no way of knowing what PR is these days, so why is this still being proliferated

You can instantly learn alot about it by going to the SEO section of this forum. Also, sites like Moz, SearchEngineLand will get you up to date. Also Google has a free ebook about ranking high in Google. Just type in "free Google seo book" in the search engine and it will come up.

Damn good content that provides a solution to the problem the reader was faced with. Period. It's worked for us since 1999. Across four different web sites.

If you solve someone's problem, they feel indebted to you. They'll engage with your site (they'll "like" it, comment on it, share it, etc.) Search engines look for engagement.

If your content is engaging, the reader is scrolling down the page to read the entire post. Search engines track scroll rate.

If your content is world class, other RELATED sites will backlink to it NATURALLY. Search engines obviously look for related backlinks from other authority web sites.

Google's mission is to provide their users with the best information possible and to make it as easy as possible for people to find. If you do the best job at solving someone's problem, they WANT to rank you #1. It makes them look good.

More confusion about bounce rate. By the way, where is the source of all this misinformation on this topic?

You want the user to stay on the page so that the average time it takes for a person to hit the back button (Google tracks that via javascript, you can view the source of a Google SERP and see it yourself) and then click on another link in the SERP (again, you can view the source of a SERP and verify that Google has the ability to track that. Not very much information about the sites you visit is actually sent to Google. Also, Google can't really lie about this, the EU courts would be all over them. You can verify the data it sends with a packet sniffer if you choose.

If damn good content worked the way your post above says it does, how come there's so much of it on page 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and even 15?

Damn good content does get shared and, sometimes, it gets linked to. But how does it get found the first time by the first people?

The answer to that question is what got your damn good content to work across 4 online properties.

Today user experience and on page SEO do matter a lot. You need to work on site artchitecture make it easy for the user and create quality content which add value. Write descriptive, meaningful titles, description and head lines for your site. Once it is done you need to build quality back links from relevant niche.

No, content shouldn't be long, shouldn't include images, data and statistics.

If I know how to measure the height of my living room and search for that in Google (I know, silly example, but works), what the hell do I need to find long content? I need

Take measuring tape. Place end at bottom of wall, roll tape till it reaches the top. Read the number at the top.

What if my site is about murals? Why can't I have a couple of photos and the 50 words that describe them on a page?
