If I add .mx to my site, will it help increase my visibility for searches in Mexico?

I work on a site that sells boat parts & accessories online.

We have a spanish version of our site, and have a lot of spanish searches to get to our products, as well as a fair amount of visitors from Mexico (although we are located in Miami, FL).

If I add a .mx to my site, will that help my "searchability" in Mexico?

Any sources to show me this one way, or the other?

Thanks

The question is will it bring you more paying customers.

If not, the point is moot.

If certainly would want the current site left as is.

Increasing "searchability" for that new site does
not mean a thing if it does not attract more
    paying customers.

If people in mexico are finding your site now
just fine, what's the big deal?

There's a story about killing the golden goose.

If people associate your business with Mexico,
    it could hit both ways.

Since you are not in mexico, why confuse people?
