You can do nothing on your own for free. Yes, move on.

SEO does take time but you should have seen plenty of results by the 5th month, even If it's only lower competition longtail keywords.

You should be receiving a report every month showing what has been done.
Most Seo companies uses two methods to rank your website.
1) Onpage optimization -This includes the creation of meta and title tags, the researching of keywords, creation of keyword rich content, creation of sitemap etc.
2) Offpage Seo - This includes Creation in Social Networking Sites, Blogging, Search Engine Submission, Directory Submission, Article Submission etc.

Actually $266/month is really low budget if your niche is competitive so you should expect anything fantastic for this money. I suggest you to request full report and give it for review to another SEO freelancer with good reputation. He will explain you what has been done, why it didn't work and what you should do now.

For ranking your keywords you should pay something for someone. If you can do it yourself it's better. Otherwise you need to choose someone. Tough you are paying good amount per month for your site still no results. In other way you can hire someone others.

Yes i agree with the others ,you should be getting some results by now, what i recommend is you get a seo course, start out with free videos on YouTube then get a course when you know a little bit about seo. Alex becker is a good seo but his courses are expensive.

How do you keep track of everything? Do you not rank for any keywords in 7 months? What about backlinks? Do you know what kind of backlinks did they build for you? You said you're sure they don't do anything special, but do you know what was promised in their monthly contract?

I read your post and surprised. How could they gave you exact time about ranking your site. First important thing is that you have to make your site according to SEO. If you develop your site with the help of SEO consultant your site will rank very soon. I don't know what are they doing with your site. You should ask about report every weak. and keep an eye they are doing right or wrong. Read about SEO and Google help you in this. you have to know basics about SEO. Other wise the people they are not good in SEO they will waste your time and money as well. hire experts .

The main problem with businesses is that they are seeking for cheap alternatives. SEO is not cheap, yet small business owners tend to hire freelancer with the cheapest rate like $100 - $300. They will make sweet promises to rank your website on first page of Google and so on.

Let's face the truth. For the right SEO freelancer to amend on-page SEO changes will consumer time. You need to take a look at every aspect of your website from design to content. On the other hand, to get authority backlinks through white hat link building method will be time consuming and extremely costly. One authority backlink can cost you from $100-$200. When one link can cost so much, how they could charge so cheap.

These SEO freelancers just go to fiverr and spam your website with links or keep doing social bookmarking which does not provide any significant boost to rank your website. If you're looking to do SEO you own, it's time consuming. You should be focusing on your business.

If you want to hire the right SEO, ask for the exact method used to rank your website, ask for bi-weekly report on what they have done so far. It will be great if you have fundamental SEO knowledge as it will help you on evaluating your current SEO provider.

Always remember that SEO is a long-term effort which yields great ROI compared to any other marketing channels.

You should get SEO training yourself so you know for yourself what should be done. Don't they give you a weekly or monthly report stating what they've done to get your site more traffic?

if he cant rank a site well why would he charge $200+ to do it for somone else. like 99% of SEO'ers they make the majority of there money not from affiliate sales but from doing SEO thats not that effective.

SEO is a long-term process, if you could think to start as you own then it takes more time as you spent earlier.

If would like to get some quicker results then do more tactics like SMO, Link Building. And write some posts which are the lengthy with quality niche based contents. Keep sharing through the social media. If all the works are moves in the right way then you can get an expected results soon.

Yeah absolutely if you are not getting result's what you want from that freelance company then leave them now. What you think about SEO is the biggest question you should ask from yourself now. As you know nothing is impossible, seo is really simple, if you know the basic things about internet then you can handle seo easily. Yeah trust me you can do it from your own, just start searching on google like what is seo or how to learn seo and them you'll learn full seo in just few days. You can take example of mine, I'm not saying that I'm doing well in this feild or in seo but the only difference between you and me is that I don't loose hope, I trust on me and i just think every time that yeah I can do it. Few months ago I was also like you only, I didn't knew any thing about seo but I have learned all about seo from google.
So just trust on yourself and start learning online, & trust me you'll feel the change in yourself in just few days.

Do you know they're actually doing? At least by finding this out you'll know what doesn't work. Are you adding content regularly to the site? What's the on page like? Is it mobile friendly? All these contribute. I personally think it's better to outsource time consuming tasks that require skill like programming, design, front end, seo etc rather than learning everything from ground up yourself. If you had an SEO plan that would be a good start e.g. regularly building edu links, 1 800 word article per month, PBN links every 3 months, niche relevant guest post every 2nd month etc.

SEO is a long process and it takes sometimes. But firstly you need to know about SEO. What is SEO & how it work?
Because if you haven't any knowledge of SEO then how you can track work. As you mentioned, you paying for SEO for about 7 months. I think you can waste your money for paying this if not received any lead & keyword in the first page of search râ€‹esults.
So you change your SEO company & tell him to give the complete work detail that they did in past.

After that finding the company that has many happy clients, check selected companies portfolio, client reviews & clearly discuss some points (how long they will give results, what strategy they do on your site etc) with the company.

Yes, you should to keep paying for SEO but on passionate guy.
This is really a serious issue if you are not getting any positive feedback regarding your ranking, If you want, I can suggest you a best way related to your requirement. Upwork.com may be a best option for you. I have used Upwork website a few month ago to find a good freelancer and I found a good guy they were working with a team and they worked with me for 5 month, provided good result within 5month. Nobody can gurantee you a position in google, according to the current algorithms they are using. Just check their work regularly. If they are working properly but you are still not ranking well then try other methods. And always check the work of your workers. But its not their fault if they are doing their jobs properly and yet your site doesnt rank. Try to lead them and use different approaches or techniques, before firing anyone; I suggest

Working with SEO is a tedious job. You can't guarantee your position specially if you are just hiring 1 staff to do that job for you when your competition is tough. Try to check your site traffic if its increasing for the past five months. If you see any developments, then good. But still, it needs a lot of work. Change your style and hire more staffs or just automate the method.

I suggest you use that money with google adwords and then see if it is buying keywords or not and if you can see people visit your keywords with google adwords on your ads.

Then you take the same keywords and do SEO for that keywords. I will go 50 % google adwords and 50 % SEO. Google adwords is instant traffic and SEO take longer to see results.

But money makes money. There is really nothing for free in the business world.

I'm a professional search engine optimizer & working on different marketplaces & from my own experience some of my clients also shared their previous experience about some of this seo companies. Actually what they do? They keep beginners or non expert people at their team with low salary & because of non expert level wok the quality of work like link strategy always may not be good. Even your search result can be affected by time!
So just will suggest do not looking for any company. Hire anyone who have experience, strong reference or successful work history & will work personally!

You also can learn & do yourself but to be an expert you need huge work experience & work history! Specially need to have vast knowledge about google algorithm updates!

Wow 7 months....I would MOVE ON. Usually 3 months onto a program you should see some results. Even if you are just at page 300 or something. Any decent SEO should be able to get you into top 100 results with the most basic package.

Over $200 per month should get you somewhere visible, unless your niche is insanely competitive.

A good tip when dealing with SEO companies is to ask for results before paying out any more money.
