What is a good back link??

Ok so I have seen this topic covered many times before however I just wanted to get to the bottom (or at least thoughts on the bottom) of what really is a good back link.

Understandably a backlink from a spammy, undesirable, viagra selling website has the potential to get my site penalised and should have no effect on making my site rank higher.. just as a backlink from a niche post, very highly rated, well known, niche website is likely to do the opposite.

What about the bit's in between...

A scenario...

I am an expert in all things, yes all things... CNN regularly calls me to ask my opinion on world news, at the bottom of every article is a link saying, 'insights from bob' with a link to my site. This happens across hundreds of different websites, BBC, Huffington Post, Mashable, you name it, they ask me... However... I am also a full time plumber, all the links I get from these sites link to my plumbing website, very few of the articles are niche and very rarely mention plumbing. Are these still good backlinks or more likely to be considered spammy as they are in no way related to my niche?? Is a backlink from a well known site that is discussing the presidential election good for my plumbing site?

in short, you should add a link to your website in your Story (and you can use an anchor text on the backlink). That will be a quality link because it will be sorrounded by content that is related to your website.Make sure you remove any Thumbnails if you post a link in a thumbnail to your website, because they are nofollow.

It's the weaker link since it's not a home page link.

Niche related link is always better but I have seen result from non related links to my site especially when it's coming from an authority site.

However, the search engine will see it as a referral from a trusted ally which is good for SEO.

What makes a backlink high quality is subjective, and every SEO consultant will have at least a slightly differing opinion on the topic, however, most would agree that a good quality backlink would be comprised of several of the factors listed below, and that a backlink that ticks all of these boxes would be the perfect backlink.

    * Ensure that you have a listing on Google and also the Yahoo directory if you can afford it. These are good directories and they can truly help your site a lot.

    * Create high quality articles and forward them to the article directories for submission. This is a great method of finding back links.

Getting backlinks – links from other websites to your business’s website – is the most effective way to improve your rankings. Not all backlinks are equal though. Some backlinks won’t improve your rankings at all, and some might even have a negative effect. Therefore, your focus should be on acquiring high quality backlinks.

A good backlink is a backlink from a domain which has not been spammed to death in the past and it was used for the same / similar niche as your web-site's niche.

A strong "good" backlink is all the above with high DA / PA numbers making the domain name an authority, so the stronger the domain the more link-juice you're getting out of the domain.

I still believe that forum backlinks are very high quality backlink . You will get stable backlink from high DA PA forums . But don not make spam in forum but just try to contribute on forums and bring your backlinks . That types of backlinks are still valuable then any other backlink ( I believe ) . For bringing out those types of backlink you can hire a professional form backlinks builder .
I have ranked my keywords just using forum backlinks .

To improve website ranking backlinks is most effective way. All backlinks won't work in effective way. So more focus should be put on acquiring high quality backlinks.
Focus on following to get high quality backlinks.
    • Search Engines focuses on relevancy, while fetching information search engines concentrate on relevany of site where the lionk placed to the link submitted site.
    • High quality link can only expected from trusted source.
    • Use anchor text as your focused keyword
    • A link in content is considered as more quality than compared to links present in footer or sidebar.

Links from CNN are good links... But if you get them from a page on CNN's site that has no links to it, they're not. If you get them from a page that's got lots of backlinks but it links out to many pages, not that good.

If you're a plumber and you get a link from a real estate website targeting the same city, from a page of theirs that's about buying plumbing-free houses, you're getting a good link, if there are few to no out-going links and if the page has its own backlinks (and what kind of backlinks it gets).

    You're a photographer.

Links from wedding planning sites, kids birthday companies, cake makers/sellers, tux renters, other photographers, travel sites, they're all good. Even real estate sites.

Depending on the content of the page you're getting the link from, where the link is (in the footer, not much good; part of an article: much better) and whether the page is being linked to and how many times.

Internal links do count, especially if they're from pages that have backlinks.

PS A link from a page on photography on a site on photography is better than a link from a page on photography on a plumbing (mortgage, nail polish, car insurance, etc.) site, all other things being equal.

But if the page on the mortgage sites has 700 backlinks from good places and the one on the photography has none, go with the page on the mortgage site, if you must choose. If you don't have to choose, get them both.

Keep the topic consistent from link to the destination on your site.

    For example:

Let's say you have a blog that deals with a few sub-niches under one main niche.

You write a guest post on another blog that talks specifically about one of these sub-niches.

Your strategy should be to link to another article or page on your site that deals with that very topic - don't just link to your homepage.

This is very basic but you should get the general idea.

A good backlink is a link that sends traffic to your website. No matter if the link is dofollow, nofollow or a redirect, as long as it sends new visitors to your website, the link is good. Now the million dollar question is how do you earn good backlinks? Keep reading because I will show you several ways you can build high quality links to your website.

Don’t write only for the purpose of getting a dofollow backlink. Remember the rule that a link is good when it sends traffic.Sometimes, websites that use nofollow links for guest authors will be more valuable for your business.
Don’t use money anchor texts in your author bio, and don’t over optimize anything.
Always link to your social media accounts in the author bio1, to get more followers and engagement.
Write fantastic content that gets hundreds of shares, and you will be invited to write again.
Share and promote the articles you write for other websites.

    Hi,

What is a “Good Quality” Backlink?

“…there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” – William Shakespeare

Pretty dramatic way to start this post, right?

    But it’s true!

You would think this debate would be over, but there still seems to be some people who debate what a quality backlink truly is.

It’s time to put an end to this debate.

Links don't have to come from niche related sites to be powerful.

BBC, Mashable etc cover a wide range of topics, the scenario you mentioned is obviously unlikely - but I would still 100% take a link back from any of those sites to a plumbing website.

The presidential election link would work - if the elect personally thanks the plumbing company for fixing his plumbing?! Again highly unlikely.

If you ask me, a good backlink is always coming from an authority website, which has not been spammed to death and built for this purpose.
If you ask Google, a good backlink should come without paying or asking for it.

Yeah those backlinks will definitely be valuable even if the article from which they are coming are not related to your content. Try to put the backlink on a generic or branded keyword and that would serve the purpose.

    A STRONG backlink is:

    - one that comes from a site with high DA (Domain Authority)
    - one that comes from a URL with a high PA (Page Authority)
    - one that's contextual (within the article and relevant)

    A WEAK backlink is:

    - one in the comments section of a blog
    - one in an article that has spun content
    - one in a forum signature

From a generic point of view the overall important characteristics of a high quality link are:
    Authority

If an important site is linking to you, there is a good chance that your site has something important to say in your niche. Similar to real life, if an important person mentions you, the overall impression of the listeners will be influenced by his high authority in the field and that way your importance will grow.
    Relevance

A relevant backlink is a link that is positioned on a site/page that talks about the same subject, or is in the same niche with your site. The relevance of a link may be given based on the content of the linking site or page and the contextual relevance of the words surrounding the link.
    Uniqueness

A high quality link has even more power, if it’s hard for your competitors to get a link from the same source. Links from relevant sites that only talk about your site and not your competitors can be considered great links because they are unique to your site. A quick example of such a link, would be conference sites that link to the companies and speakers that are participating at that conference. Naturally, not all your competitors can be present at that conference so that is a great place to build some high quality and unique links to your site.
