Can I get Long Tail Keyword on 1st Page of Google?

I have really started to get into SEO side of things. After years of research I have finally decided to really focus my time to try and rank my own sites rather then employing others to do it for me.

I have managed already to get 2 keywords ranked but ok they are not going to change the world.

The most recent one is a little more complex but it kind of gets me excited.

It's a Long Tail Keyword with 7 words.

It has around 1000 searches a month with LOW competition.

Despite it having low competition the front page of google is littered with high DA/PA sites and this goes down to about page 3..

This kind of questions the accuracy of Googles prediction on the competition of this keyword.

I will keep this thread updated with my progress and hopefully we can all learn from each other and help our businesses grow. I will not tell you what the keyword is as this would be telling...

What is my plan of action?

Well I need some content to target this long tail keyword.

Last night I started putting it together and so far have managed to write around 1000 words. I will aim for around 2000 as I feel this will give me the best opportunity to rank well based on my own research.

The next step is to create smaller interlinking articles and link to them via this main one.

I really want to annoy the readers with my straight forward thinking and harsh comments.

It might backfire or it might get shared 100s of times. Time will only tell!

Main SEO

At this moment in time I don't have a plan as the main aim to get the article published, get it indexed on google and see where it lands.

I will then probably look to make some adjustments to the article itself before looking at back links.

This is where you guys come in with your wisdom and help me with ideas on how to improve the rankings.

Wish me luck!

It would be better if you start building some links just after posting the article. Also do some social shares.

Sure you can. Just don't give up. Create original and information content with your long tail keywords in it and its variation. Post the latest topic in your niche. and do social media shares.

    "Despite it having low competition"

You have been looking at the Google Keyword Planner haven't you?
This is for Adwords advertisers ONLY, it is not SEO competition, but at least you have looked at the SERP and found out it may not be as easy at it looks.

"Googles prediction on the competition of this keyword"
Is usually fairly accurate... for Adwords advertisers.

At no point anywhere do Google ever predict SEO competition

Thanks for pointing this out for me. Where is the best place to check the competition of keywords then?

Theres no one place to find that except the first page of the results. You have to analyze the top ten ranking

Title and H1 tags to see what the page is likely targeted for
backlink quality - nothing like pagerank to use anymore so use majestic. moz and ahrefs to get a picture of the backlinks- my favorite of those being trustflow but none of these are perfect - just what we now have and need to work with.

I'm sorry to say but your plan is no SEO plan at all. You have to be in the weakest serp there is to rank without link building and your controversy content strategy only works if you already have visibility. Controversial content that no one reads doesn't create controversy.

Finally trying to get a linkbuilding strategy from WF now is hit and miss due to a lot of people posting who have no idea what they are doing.

PS you are off as well on length of content - long content often works because it covers a topic well not just because of word count (increases LSI score). There is no magical number of words to rank and it often doesn't at all if not put with linkbuilding

Thanks for clearing this up. I have been using MOZ already and I will try the few others you have noted.

Regarding content - the aim is to write content which is interesting not just for the sake of word count. It's not my strengths, but I have to start somewhere and build on it.

I am working on back links - looking at PBN already have few domains, as well as WEB 2.0 as well as building relationships with bloggers. I want to build a lasting model, which will allow me to constantly expand new ideas quickly.

I am always open to advise and I have taken on board a lot of useful advice from this forum.. But I believe the learning curve never stops.

I am also exploring funnel ideas and have been working this morning on one of my eCommerce sites to try and implement my first one.

Have you used funnels or are you using them now?

Once again your help is really appreciated.

No, you're not ranking any pages considering you think the Adwords competition column has something to do with organic SEO.

Interesting post. I suppose nothing is ever set in stone. I know bloggers in my country who don't depend on SEO at all. With them it's all about who they are in the community and the content they post. Period. And they're making staggering sums of money (equivalent to a monthly real estate income in a very posh neighborhood) from advertisers... the likes of banks, mobile phone companies and so forth, all spending thousands of dollars a month to place their banners on the bloggers' blogs.

Here's my wisdom. Good that you are doing your own seo, nothing beats that satisfaction.

As you said, if your target keyword ranking are occupied big Authority sites. Are those pages optimized for the same keywords I mean:

    1. Do you see the keywords in the Title.
    2. H1 tag
    3. Body of the content.

If so that might make your journey a little longer, but you will reach their if you can match them first and then beat them next.

    Good Luck.

    Hope this helped.
