301 Redirect SEO Question.

When I did a 301 redirect with Godaddy from one domain to another I stumbled upon the following issue....
All of the old links that linked to the inner pages of the "redirected domain", are now redirecting to my main site, but they are not redirecting to the home page like I want them to, here is what happens.
x.com > y.com
x.com/page1 > y.com/page1
How do I redirect all of the traffic from my domain to the homepage and stop it from linking to inner pages that don't exist (which gives me a 404 error).
