How do you define an opportunity? I think given the sophistication of your question, you also likely know as well as anyone else that market size dictates in large part the answer to your question.

If I were selling something that the mom blog crew would access, the amount might limitless.

For my outreach, I try and find 10-15 targets per hour, with initial contact being much more complicated and customized for each of them.

Opportunity could be finding roundups, broken links, guest posting opportunities, resources pages.

Basically anything that has the possibility of becoming a backlink for you.

Im not talking about Outreach (ie sending them an email asking for xyz) im talking about just finding opportunities to then go and outreach to.

Thats an interesting question but impossible to really answer. It depends entirely on niche and the quality of link opportunities you are talking about. Then to that you have to figure out what contacts are more likely to end successfully.

you could reach out to anything thats out there and get 1 or 2 responses or you could analyze it and only reach out to 20 in a week and get back 10 responses

You are doing a good thing choosing that white hat strategy. there are a lot of people who don;t want to go that route or as in a case of a company i just finished talking with who don't understand whats involved in getting white hat links at all.

Just like anything else to do with SEO links, counting is useless considering one link might be better than a weeks worth of links/work.

Yes I with youkon, it makes no sense to count how much links you find with SB or manual. It always depends on the quality of this hunted links. One High Authority link can be more worth than 1000 links you find easy, fast and EVERYBODY find this link. Please think at OBL when a link is so easy to catch
