Weird things going with Google duplicate title tags

We are having some strange things happening with Google Title Tags over the past week. Google telling us in WMT that we have "duplicates" and yet these are all correctly page numbered.

Google appears to be removing various words from our title tags and placing them with our brand name and then totally removing the page number at the end, which then leaves a number of duplicate tags (when we have 2,3,4,5. etc pages in a category).

Has anyone else experienced this over the past week? I'm wondering if it will sort itself out and whether it could be reindexing issues with a potential Google update?

You have a lot to learn If you think paginated SERP titles are unique titles just because you include a page ID number.

These are not unique page/SERP titles.

    • etc...

You'll be lucky If all those pages don't end up buried in Supplemental SERPs.

So how exactly do you deal with shop categories on a website that run onto multiple pages?
Our category pages have always been this way for almost 10 years with never any flags of "duplicates" in this way before.
