Hello to all,

So I have read many post that say not to have paid backlinks, that it is a bad idea and Google does not like them. I am still trying to figure it all out but how does Google or any other search engine know what is paid and what is not paid backlinks.

I have access to allot of .gov websites as I work for the Government so getting on websites with them is pretty easy and I know the ones I need to get on as not all are the best.

and also how many backlinks should one have for a website? I have seen something on the internet that one website had 62,000 backlink and I am unsure if that is true but that should in fact do some good if true.

Thanks in advance

If the backlinks are good quality then you haven't any problem to build any number of backlinks.

Whether you buy it or build it yourself manually it's all the same, the quality is what matters.

It's like driving yourself or hiring someone to drive you, who drives better? I leave you to answer that.

In the real sense, Google doesn't want you to lift a finger to build links. They expect sites should get links on their own and these can happen through referrals and people sharing your site or post on their site.

I also leave you to decide on this again.

One more thing I would like to add this thread is that number of unique domains are more important than count of backlinks. It is better to get 100 backlinks from 100 different domains than 100 backlinks from single domain. Hope this is helpful. Thanks.

The difference between both is time and quality. Go for any of them. Just remember to focus on quality not quantity.

"Google can tell links are purchased in a variety of ways. For one, you know those out-of-the-blue emails that promise to sell you links that Google can't detect? They get sent to people at Google, as well. Google also has an entire team devoted to doing nothing but investigating web spam, which includes people buying links.

If those aren't enough resources, Google actually encourages people to report link selling schemes, especially as a means for those who are caught to help redeem themselves into Google's good graces."

Create natural backlinks. Backlinks from sites with higher authority is good. You just need to avoid spam sites and paid backlinks. For they can find the abnormalities in your traffic. For instance, if your domain is just one month then you have a high traffic, that's abnormal.

If you are an authorize person for .gov websites its strictly prohibited to include unrelated links to the reputable websites and that's clearly abusing the power of authority. Government employees didn't ever think to ruin their sites.

When doing SEO for your website, it’s vital to know what are the backlinks that are violating Google’s webmaster guidelines. These backlinks can cause vulnerability and eventually a penalty. In this article, I will talk about the unnatural backlinks that you should avoid, along with Matt Cutt’s take on these links.
