Does setting up Web2.0s like Tumblr, and Wordpress.com sites and having them link back to your actual site still help SEO. If they do, what are some other ones to use?

Only in weak search results. You are essentially talking about building a web 2.0 PBN. For a brief discussion of that and other stronger PBN options check this thread here at WF.

If that's all your doing, no, doesn't help, big waste of time.

Authority backlink pages have their own followed backlink profile pointing directly at the backlink URL. No followed supporting backlinks, no authority.

It still works for me but requires a lot of effort from your side. Don't do spamming and only post unique informational content and link back to your main site.

They still work, but you need to have a backlink profile that contains a variety of backlinks. You can't rely on one single type of backlink and expect to get results. If you include web 2.0 links with contextual links, blog comments, articles, guestposts, etc., you will be able to get more results from your SEO campaign.

Yep - 2.0s are still VERY useful, but are only part of a well-balanced linking structure.

Ideally, your going to use mini-networks of 2.0s to bump more expensive properties (Paid links, PBN links, and good organic links).

Yes they do work you can use them to target exact anchors or to diversify anchor link ratio.
and if you are picking expired web2.0 that much better. Just make sure to use the ones that gives DoFollow links only.

Yes... Web 2.0 links are the still the main off page activity. But with the time its format changes and now weight-age is given to the post contents and links. Web 2.0 have many big platforms to promote your website like example given in above threads.

Most of ‘So-Called SEO Gurus’ will answer negative. So far in several of my experiments, Web 2.0 backlinks worked (and very recently, it’s working) really great for me. I built even $1K+ making site for my clients relying mainly on Web 2.0 links

Of course they work. It doesn't make sense for the search engines to ignore them, no matter what disinformation specialists like Matt Cutts would want you to believe. Just make sure that your web 2.0s are not obviously spammy.

If the content on the Web 2.0 is contextual and lengthy then yes the benefits can be huge. I've ranked low comp keywords on just Web 2.0's and the key is to build them like mini websites with a few thousand words of good content.

Also, building quality backlinks to it is essential to increase the PA and give your backlink more juice. I use a mix of Dofollow and Nofollow platforms to make my backlink profile more natural and to get anchor text diversity.

So yes, Web 2.0's are amazing and still work when you do it right.
