that's a bit of a strange question, because you do not need HTML and Schema to do seo.

what you need is sites that link to you. They support your seo needs.

your question is a basic question of how to make a page internet ready

      Wrong.

Look at the junk link blasters that target Warrior Forum nofollow sigs. If they knew HTML they would know how to spot nofollow links. If they knew how to spot nofollow links they wouldn't waste their time here.

Same goes for on-page SEO, you'll struggle with things like default webpage templates/themes without knowing HTML while competion that does know HTML will streamline their text versions of webpages and outrank you (anyone).

There's not a single SEO that doesn't know HTML. There's kiddies in 3rd world villages selling junk and passing it off as SEO but it's not SEO.

Learn HTML, otherwise you're not serious about SEO.

Seriously, HTML is extremely easy to learn and there's a bazillion free tutorials online.

Here's an example of how easy HTML is, mess with the code.

No, HTML is not enough, you need to know about on page and off page SEO. Of course it should be white hat SEO. CSS and javascript are different from SEO these things are highly essential for web design.

Im talking about other programing languages not the 20 on page signs of a optimum page or off page link building.

Yes learn CSS, at least the basics.

No on javascript though overly complex javascript can be used to hide links (link sculpting).

Most webpages look totally different (on-page text and links) when comparing a full webpage to the text version of the same webpage/URL.

Example, look at this Wikipedia page (links below), they're pushing all the fluff to the bottom of the webpage with CSS. That's not an accident, that's by design (SEO).

Stuff like the Wikipedia example is what separates the dreamers from the SEOs.

yeah, you need neither of those... SEO can be done with some basic keyword research, lots of diligence in social media marketing, local citations, great content and a bunch of other basic stuff... No HTML needed.

If you are talking about working as an SEO, in other words making it your profession where you offer SEO services to others, it would be greatly beneficial to know HTML/CSS, and a little bit of PHP and javascript.

You could get by without it, but you would be a far inferior SEO to someone who understands those languages, in my opinion. It's a lot harder to audit a website if you do have zero understanding of the code.

Well "to know html" really has nothing to do with SEO, except if you buy 5 dollar services

to open a html page with notepad to see a no-follow link in there, c'mon, everyone
can do that, its not like i have to understand html syntax for that. It just means paying
a basic required minimum attention to details.

Knowing the details and using that to your advantage is SEO.

Nobody is doing SEO without knowing HTML.

Link builders aren't SEOs, the guys running $5 - $7 shit gigs (RIP niko).

I disagree with Mike and Yukon on many things but on this they are correct and you are dead wrong.

How are you going to do on page optimization if you don't know where to find the title? how are you going to know that your H1 tags are optimized if you don't know what a H1 tag is, what about alt tags on your images?

Thats all HTML knowledge and important to SEO.

but to answer the OP's question (and its a rare very good one) you can go a long way without anything but HTMl for simple pages - You however should probably know at least some basics of PHP in cases where the code is being generated by PHP (but strictly speaking you could just have a coder you work with.

Javascript though is even more important. I can't tell you the amount of times knowing that javascript is wrecking a page SEO wise has helped. However youDO NOT have to be a fullfledged PHP or Javascript programmer to know these things. Just some understanding of them will assist you

CSS? Meh maybe - there are some positioning style elements that can do strange things to a page but generally the style is not going to affect SEO that much.

I see that many technical guys currently switching from IT field to Internet marketing field, especially SEO. So that I think the basic skills requirement to work in SEO industry are technical skill, research skill, analytics skill and a bit programming skill. These skill will help much in many SEO projects that require on-page optimization such as robot, script, sitemap, css, tags,...

    I hope this helps.

Knowing the BASICS of any programming languages in which related to your SEO work is a must. Yukon has given lots of feeds to the some of the members here in which believes that Link Building is SEO. In reality its not. A link builder is too far from legit SEO.
