Hi all, thanks a lot for your help on my previous threads, they really helped me a lot. It seems the more you learn about internet marketing and SEO, the more questions arise so Its great to have a forum like this where people are happy to exchange knowledge and ideas.

So, my area of confusion this time; How much of an effect on SEO does web traffic numbers have?

Im getting to grips with all the on page SEO elements and I feel that Ive put my website in a fairly good position regarding these on-page elements. They could always be improved of course and I intend to improve them as I go along but as a beginner I feel like Ive given myself a pretty good start in the on-page SEO stakes.

But, does all this mean anything if my page does not get a decent amount of web traffic? How much does web traffic numbers affect SEO, and will my page be visible to search engine users if there is minimal website visitors in the early stages - which there absolutely will be.

If this is the case, what is needed to give my website the initial leg up off the bottom rung of the ladder of SEO rankings? It seems like a bit of a catch 22; no visitors without a good SEO ranking and no good SEO ranking without visitors.

Web traffic has nothing to do with rankings.

Google has no idea how much traffic most websites get. A few years ago, they reported that around 10 million websites were using Google Analytics. Even if that number has grown substantially since then, it is still a very small percentage of all the sites that are out there.

They can get some traffic data if a site is running Google AdSense or from visitors using Google Chrome, but even still that leaves them with only a very tiny amount of the data.
