Getting indexed without doing anything?!

Hi all,

Everytime I set up a new website (NOT a wordpress blog, just a static website) I always find that Google indexes my sites after a week or two, when there's NO links coming in, no RSS feeds, no promotion whatsoever, and not even a sitemap.

Anyone else experience this?

Goes to show, the "theory" behind getting indexed might not be correct. Sure, there are ways to get indexed faster, but doesn't it seem strange how Google (and AOL in this case) can find my website purely because it's "online"?
#indexed
  • Doesn't seem strange at all. They hit your host and crawl all the sites on your host. What is strange about that? Just because you can't see links to your site... there are links to your site. Google is following a path. When you register a domain you create a link to your site because of the scraper sites that look for new domains.

I think Google bots also crawl the WHOIS, which would get your site "noticed" without doing much.

  • Are this Add-on domains? When Google bots spider your account they find all domains. Also new ones.

I suppose they are, as people are pointing out, crawling my accounts and finding new domains within my hosting account.

I suppose the the tracking from Google Analytics tracks their own bots then? If not, I'm getting genuine traffic from the SE's (although, that's extremely unlikely). The funny thing is, I'm getting data of keywords used to find my site.

That's the only reason I found this strange, as I didn't realize this happened to new domains. No biggie, just wondered really.
