optimising product pages

Hello all,
I am about to redo our product pages. Changing the description / url to a more effective short and long tail keywords. I am not sure what the best practice is. Do I change the existing page or create a new one with a redirection. The pages will be of the same products?

    In case the pages are ranking and there are backlinks worth preserving - you might want to optimize the existing pages (update the tites, descriptions or content). You may also go for permanent redirection in case you believe you may benefit more from the new optimized URLs.
